1. Drama at Hyatt Regency as Former MP’s Son Brandishes Pistol

High drama was witnessed at Hyatt Regency hotel on 13 October, Saturday night as the son of a former BSP Parliamentarian brandished a gun to threaten a man and a woman, following an argument inside the premises.

The incident, captured on a phone camera by one of the accused’s companions, went viral on Tuesday, prompting the Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju, to intervene.

Following a complaint by a staffer at the RK Puram hotel, Delhi Police issued a lookout circular against the accused Ashish Pandey (40), who hails from Lucknow and is the son of former BSP MP Rakesh Pandey.

His brother, Ritesh, is a sitting Uttar Pradesh MLA from Ambedkar Nagar. The man he threatened, Kanwar Gaurav, is the son of ex-MLA Kanwar Karan Singh.

2. Mumbai Rapist Spoke of ‘Wrongs’ to Mother

The accused in multiple cases of sexual assault and two cases of rape and murder, Rehan Qureshi, had hinted to his mother that he was doing “something wrong”.

According to Navi Mumbai Police, Qureshi, 34, told his mother, “Mein galat kar raha hoon aur pakda ja sakta hoon (I am doing wrong and may be caught).” However, the police do not believe his mother knew the extent of his criminal activity.

Since last year, the Navi Mumbai crime branch has been investigating molestation and rape complaints that showed a similarity in their modus operandi.

“When the cases start recurring, we believed that it was a serial crime as there were similarities,” said Tushar Doshi, deputy commissioner of police.

3. Elderly Doctor Stabbed and Robbed at Home

A 65-year-old doctor was stabbed and robbed of cash and jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh at his house in Mukherjee Nagar on the night of Monday, 15 October.

Four men barged into the house in north Delhi when Dr P K Batra was alone, bringing back, for the family, the memories of a 20-year-old robbery bid in which his wife had got killed.

The doctor, who was stabbed on the arms and in the abdomen, was found lying in a pool of blood, with his mouth gagged and hands and legs tied, by his son and daughter-in-law when they returned from a Ramlila function. Mohit, the victim’s son, informed the police and Dr Batra was taken to a private hospital, where he is still being treated but is out of danger. The police said the suspects had not been identified yet.

4. Mohamadwadi ‘Dog Fight’ Sees 5 Youth Arrested for Assault

The Kondhwa police have arrested five youth for assaulting a man over a dispute involving the alleged attempt of mowing down a puppy in the Raheja Vista area of Mohammadwadi. While the incident took place on the evening of Saturday, 13 October, the arrests were made on Sunday.

Of the five arrested, one is a police constable’s son, police said, adding that the accused were not residents of Mohammadwadi.

The five arrested have been identified as Altaf Shakil Tadvi (18), a constable’s son and resident of Tadiwala road; Ganesh Tukaram Payke ( 20), resident of Tadiwala road; Anmol Ramkrishna Nirmal (21), resident of Kedarinagar; Prateek Ramesh Rathod (20), resident of Kedarinagar; and Sherwani Sheriar Shaikh (19), resident of Radiant Clover Village in Wanowrie.

5. 23-Year-Old Nigerian National Arrested with Drugs

Tardeo police have arrested a 23-year-old Nigerian national for allegedly possessing 45 grams mephedrone.

Despite interrogation for more than seven days, the police, failed to extract information about the cartel that he had allegedly been working for.
“My community will harass me to death, please try to understand,” is what the arrested Okoro David told the police, officials said.

The police arrested David on October 7 from Haji Ali. The police were tipped off about the arrival of a Nigerian, who is staying in India without a valid passport.

6. Woman Accuses Controversial Self-Styled Godman Nithyananda of Uploading Porn

Controversial self-styled Godman Nithyananda is in the news again for all the wrong reasons. One of his old devotees, who was allegedly a victim of sexual assault by Nithyananda, has accused him of uploading a porn video on YouTube.

The police have registered an FIR in this connection.

The 45-year-old woman, who is a resident of Chennai, lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police last week.

According to her complaint, she came to know from an acquaintance that a video named ‘porn star’ was available on YouTube and the video had her face morphed with an obscene content.

7. Man Stabbed to Death Over Choice of Song at Puja Pandal

An argument over the choice of songs being played at a Durga Puja pandal snowballed into a fight in which a 44-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the head in west Delhi’s Khyala area on Sunday, 14 October.

The victim, Riyaz, had gone to the pandal near his house where he got into an argument with three men over the choice of music.

Cops said Riyaz approached the person in charge to change the music when the argument started between him and three others— Vinay, Manoj and Mahesh, following which both the parties went outside the park to resolve it.

However, it only snowballed into a scuffle when one of the accused, in a fit of rage, stabbed Riyaz in the head with a knife.

8. Road Rage: Couple Attacked for Not Giving Way to Car

A couple was thrashed by a group of men in Aya Nagar in south Delhi on Sunday, 14 October, in a road rage-related incident. The accused allegedly tracked down the woman claiming that she didn’t give space so that he could overtake her car.

A case has been registered under IPC sections of assault, wrongful restrain, molestation and stalking, police said.

The woman who got the complaint registered alleged that she was overseeing work going on in a drain near her house when her neighbours told her that a man was standing outside her house hurling abuses.

9. Heroin Worth ₹100cr Found in Tea Truck

Busting a ‘golden triangle’-based drug cartel, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has seized a huge cache of heroin worth Rs 100 crore in the international market. Two smugglers have been arrested.

According to DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the consignment was first sent to Manipur from the Myanmar border and then transported to Assam, where it was loaded on to a truck transporting tea packets. The truck was sent through Patna, Varanasi and Lucknow to reach Delhi, said a source.

The issue of heroin smuggling got highlighted recently when an anti-drug crusader was murdered in Taimoor Nagar. Two weeks ago, a consignment worth Rs 80 crore was also seized.

The arrested men have been identified as Sayeed Khan (62) and Ghanshyam (46). “Several mobile handsets and SIM cards were seized from them,” Yadav said.
