1. Fake PMAY-U Housing Scheme In Delhi
Delhi Police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons for allegedly duping people under the pretext of providing houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) scheme.
The case was registered at South Avenue police station Thursday, 11 July, after several complainants reached the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
A case was registered on a police complaint from B K Mandal, an under-secretary. “Some people are… circulating fake (PMAY-U) application forms. The incident came to light when many reached the PMO and MoHUA, to submit forms for availing benefits under PMAY-U,” Mandal said in his complaint.

2. Man Starves Wife for 50 Days in Search of Hidden Treasure
A woman was allegedly forced to survive on minimal food for around 50 days by her husband for finding a ‘hidden treasure’ on the advice of a self- proclaimed godman in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, police said Wednesday, 10 July.
The ordeal unfolded last year at Shegaon village in Chimur tehsil, police said.
“The woman had got married in August 2018. A self- proclaimed godman had advised the woman’s husband and her in-laws that they would get ‘hidden treasure’ if she is starved and made to perform certain rituals. From the first day of her marital life, they started harassing the woman by forcing her to perform vedic rituals on a tortoise, among other things,” an official of Shegaon police station said.

3. Woman Shot at by Assailants in Dwarka
A 38-year-old woman was shot at multiple times by unidentified assailants while she was returning home in her car after dropping her nine-year-old son at school. The incident took place near Mohinder Apartments in Dwarka’s Sector 12 on Thursday, 11 July.
According to police, two motorcycle-borne assailants shot at Kiran Yadav, who sustained a bullet injury to her neck. She was rushed to Venkateswara Hospital by passersby and her condition is critical, said police.
“We were informed about the incident around 8 am. An autorickshaw driver took her to the hospital. A case has been registered. We have detained a few suspects and will nab the assailants soon accused,” said Additional DCP (Dwarka) Rajender Meena.

4. Six Held After Arms Found at Madrasa in UP
Six people have been arrested after pistols and cartridges were allegedly recovered from a Unani medicine clinic inside a madrasa at Sherkot in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district.
Bijnor’s assistant police superintendent, Vishwajeet Srivastava, said Sajid, the madrasa manager, was allegedly supplying arms and ammunition on the pretext of running the clinic. He added that the people in the area did not suspect anything amiss as the clinic was situated inside the madrasa.
Police said the pistols and cartridges included those made locally and they were recovered after the madrasa was raided on Wednesday, 10 July. They were stored in medicine boxes.

5. Pregnant Complainant Accuses Etah Cops of Rape
An FIR was lodged against two sub-inspectors of Awagadh police station on Thursday, 11 July, a day after it was reported that a woman and her husband had approached Etah police with a written complaint, alleging she had been raped by the two.
The two cops, sub-inspectors Yogesh Tiwari and Prem Kumar Gautam, were booked.
According to the written complaint filed by the 27-year-old woman who claims to be three-months pregnant, “In my husband’s absence, two sub-inspectors of Awagadh police raped me on several occasions and filmed the acts. The cops threatened to kill my husband and shared the video of the sexual assault in public domain to humiliate me.”

6. CU Student Arrested for Rs 2.5 Lakh Fraud
The Amherst Street police arrested a student of Calcutta University for allegedly duping his fellow hosteller of Rs 2.5 lakh by promising him a job as a primary school teacher.
The police said they had nabbed Monirul Islam Hossain, a resident of Gosaba and a student of Islamic history, following the complaint lodged by Addus Salam.
According to the police, Salam claimed that Hossain had offered him a primary teacher’s job and asked him to pay Rs 8 lakh for this. After much persuasion, the accused agreed to settle the matter for Rs 2.5 lakh.
After receiving the money, the accused showed no signs of handing out the appointment letter to the complainant, despite repeated reminders. Cops are investigating the case after the accused revealed that the money had been passed on to someone else.

7. Police Probe Woman Found With Gunshot Wounds, FIR Against Parents
Police in Etah have registered an FIR against the parents of an 18-year-old woman after she was found alive with gunshot injuries in her neck near a canal under Malawan police station area of the district on Wednesday morning, 10 July.
According to police, Nisha, 18, was spotted with grievous injuries near a canal by locals and taken to the Etah district hospital, from where she was referred to a hospital in Aligarh.

8. Hyderabad Cab Driver Kills Wife, Son for 4-Acre Land
A van driver allegedly throttled his wife and their four-year-old son before setting ablaze their bodies at their home at Karasgutti village in Sangareddy district on Wednesday, 10 July.
Police took the accused, Ch Venkat Reddy, into custody and found out that he committed the murders after his wife refused to sell her four-acre plot. The victims were identified as Ch Kavita (28) and Dinesh Reddy (4).
“Venkat set the bodies ablaze using kerosene and left the house around 2.30 pm on Wednesday. As the windows and door were closed, there was little sign of smoke and neighbours did not sense anything wrong,” Narayankhed Dy SP R Satyanarayana Raju said.

9. Drunk Man Sets His Mother on Fire, Held
34-year-old man was arrested by Ghaziabad police for allegedly beating up his mother, pouring petrol on her and setting her on fire at their Sangam Park residence in Khoda locality on Wednesday night, 10 July. The condition of the 58-year-old woman is stated to be critical.
Police said the incident took place at the house of victim, Bhagwan Devi, who lived with her two sons — Mohan Lal and Raj Thakur.
According to the police the incident took place when Mohan arrived home drunk around 8pm on Wednesday and his mother objected to his habit of drinking. This led to an altercation between the woman and her son.
