1. Class IX Boy Stabbed to Death by Senior in School Toilet

A Class IX student was found dead inside the toilet of a school in Gujarat’s Vadodara on Friday, 22 June, with multiple stab wounds on his body, police said.

Dev Bhagwandas Tadvi (14), a student of Bharti School in Baranpora area, was accosted by unidentified culprits when he was headed to his classroom on the first floor, the police said.

According to the police, prima facie it looks like the boy was stabbed by a student of Class X. An official who reached to the spot, said the body of the 14-year-old was found in the first-floor toilet near the tenth standard classroom.

2. Hubby, In-Laws Harassing Me, Says Skating Champ Ruchika Jain

National skating champion Ruchika Jain on Friday, 22 June, approached the Begumpet women police and lodged a complaint of harassment and threats against her husband, Akshey Kataria.

Jain is a gold medalist in skating and has won many national tournaments. In her complaint, Ms Jain alleged that her husband and his family were harassing and threatening her. She stated that trouble started soon after marriage on 11 December last year, when her husband did not take her on a honeymoon.

3. Hi-Tech Prostitution Racket Busted in Mangaluru, Six Girls Rescued

The coastal city on Friday, 22 June, woke up to a horror of human trafficking after Mangaluru city police and Mysuru-based NGO Odanadi Seva Samsthe (OSS) jointly busted a sophisticated prostitution racket, wherein trafficked girls allegedly from Bangladesh were forced into prostitution in a specially designed lodge near Pumpwell locality.

As many as six girls have been rescued and 11 persons arrested so far. Five girls, who are minors, have managed to flee from the spot using a secret hideout.

4. Khalapur Food Poisoning: Kin of Host Wanted to Kill Husband and In-Laws

The police have arrested 23-year-old Pradnya Survase for having poisoned the food that was served at a gathering in Mahad on Monday, 18 June, and claiming the lives of five guests. Survase is related to Subhas Mane, who was the host. According to the police, Survase had wanted to kill her husband and in-laws – all of whom were present at the gathering – because they had allegedly victimised her.

“Pradnya claims that since her marriage two years ago, she has been insulted regularly for her dark complexion and accused of not being able to cook well,” said Vishwajeet Kaingade, senior inspector of Khalapur police station.

5. Dalit Farmer in Madhya Pradesh Set on Fire

Police in Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh have arrested four men from the Yadav community for allegedly burning a 55-year-old Dalit farmer alive following a fight over a piece of land, a senior official said on Friday, 22 June.

According to the police, Tiran Yadav, his son Prakash and nephews Balbir and Sanju were arrested late on Thursday night for killing Kishorilal Jatav.

Deputy inspector general of police Dharmendra Chaudhary said Jatav was given 3.5 acre of land in Parosia Ghatkhedi village in Berasia area, some 45km away from Bhopal, in 2000 by the government.

6. Child Shot Dead for Plucking Mangoes in Bihar

A 10-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead on Thursday, 21 June, in Bihar’s Khagaria district for picking mangoes from the ground of an orchard while playing, police said on Friday.

The incident took place in Shergarh village under Gogri area of Khagaria district with high rate of crime.

Makuni Yadav said his son Satyam Kumar was shot in the head by the orchard’s security guard Ramashish Yadav. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Hundreds of people gathered after the news spread and protested against the incident demanding action against the accused.

7. Murder Inside Puzhal Prison, Officials Suspended

Two days after ‘Boxer’ Murali was murdered inside the Puzhal central prison, ADGP (prisons) Ashutosh Shukla issued orders suspending assistant jailer and chief warder of the prison, on Friday, 22 June.

According to sources, assistant jailer Palanivel and chief warder Nagarajan were suspended. The suspension has come after Murali, detained under the Goondas Act, was allegedly murdered by fellow inmates Saranraj, Joseph, Ramesh, Karthi and Pradeepkumar on Wednesday, 20 June.

8. Woman Held Captive, Gangraped

A 20-year-old woman from Jajpur district was allegedly held captive and raped by four men for 12 days, according to a complaint lodged by her with police.

The police said one of the accused, an inhabitant of Kayana village in the district, was arrested on Thursday and three others are still at large.

The unmarried woman in her complaint on Wednesday, 20 June, said she was allegedly drugged, held captive and raped by the four men in different places, including in Bhubaneswar, for 12 days.

9. Realtor Arrested for Wife’s Murder, Attempt to Kill Kids

A 49-year-old realtor shot his wife multiple times and killed her at their residence in Jayanagar over a property dispute on the night of Thursday, 21 June. He also shot two of his three children, who are out of danger and are being treated at a city hospital.

After the murder, Ganesh H K, fled in his SUV along with his children. He was arrested after a few hours at Banagiri near Anchepalya in Ramnagar on Friday afternoon.

The police found his younger son, 12, and the adopted daughter, 9, who were shot in the abdomen, lying in a pool of blood on the rear seat of his SUV.
