1.Former MP Radadiya Dies at 61; Lost Powerful Farmer Leader: PM

Former BJP MP and and one of the tallest leaders in the state’s cooperative sector, Vitthal Radadiya passed away on Monday, 30 July after prolonged illness. He was 61.

“Glory to Lord Krishna! Prominent farmer leader for all of us, Vitthalbhai Radadiya passed away today, Monday, 29/07/2019. May the Thakorji bless his soul with peace,” Radadiya’s son Jayesh Radadiya, the State Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Minister, announced on his official Twitter handle.

Radadiya had been under observation at a bungalow in Bopal area of Ahmedabad for more than a year after he was discharged from hospital. Jayesh said that his body would be kept at Kanya Chhatralaya (girl’s hostel) in their native village Jamkandorana from 7 am to 12 pm on Tuesday. He further said that the funeral procession would start from their family home at Patel Chowk in Jamkandorana of Rajkot district at 1 pm Tuesday.

2. Rain Relief to Farmers in Saurashtra, Kutch

Moderate to heavy rainfall was recorded in all 12 districts of Saurasthra-Kutch regions on Monday, 29 July, bringing some relief to farmers who were worried about their crops wilting in the prolonged dry spell.

Five major dams of the region received fresh inflow of water and the Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to heavy rainfall in Saurashtra and Kutch over the next three days. Rajkot city recorded 59 millimetres (mm) of rainfall till 6pm, while Rajkot taluka received 60 mm rain and the neighbouring Padadhari taluka got 36 mm. Light showers were reported in Jamkandorana, Dhoraji, Lodhika, Vinchhiya, Upleta and Kotda Sangani talukas.

3. TikTok Videos: DGP Issues Circular on Social Media Conduct for Cops

The Director General of Police (DGP) on Monday, 29 July, issued a circular reminding all police personnel to use social media in accordance with the Gujarat Civil Services (Conduct) Rules (1971) and the Gujarat Police Act (1951).

In the circular, DGP Shivanand Jha said that a police personnel, even if not on duty or in uniform, should abide by the code of conduct deemed appropriate for them as a member of the police force.

Last week, both Ahmedabad and Vadodara police commissioners stated that police personnel in uniform should not engage in any act that harms the force’s image. TikTok videos of at least five police personnel from Gujarat surfaced last week, becoming a hot topic of debate even as action was taken against four of them.

4. More Rainy yet Sultry Days Ahead for Ahmedabad

Cloudy weather prevailed in Ahmedabad on Monday, 29 July, and the city received 16.87 mm rains during the day, according to a report of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Sarkhej area received a maximum of 36.5 mm rains. The weather department has predicted rains in the city for four days and the minimum temperature is likely to fall but the maximum temperature is likely to rise, according to the weather department.

The city witnessed cloudy weather throughout the day with intermittent showers at many places. According to the report of AMC, with 16.87 mm rains, the seasonal total of rains has increased to 180.16 mm rains. On Monday Sarkhej received maximum 36.5 mm rains, followed by Dudheshwar (27 mm), Usmanpura (23 mm), Memko (21 mm), Vatva (18 mm) and Bodakdev (17 mm). India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the recent pattern of cloudy weather with light showers will continue for about four days.

5. Gujarat HC Seeks Govt's Reply on FIR Over Transfer of Property in Disturbed Area

The Gujarat High Court on Monday, 29 July, sought a reply from the state government after 13 persons moved the court for quashing of an FIR registered against them for transfer of immovable property in Varsha Flats in Paldi, which falls under the Disturbed Areas Act, without the sanction of the revenue authorities. The Act prohibits Muslims from purchasing properties belonging to Hindus and vice versa in areas notified by the government.

Following the hearing, the single-judge bench of Justice SH Vora issued a notice to the state government directing it to file reply by 21 October. The court also directed the state government not to take any coercive action against the petitioners. It, however, refused to stay the investigation in the case and clarified that the investigation in the case shall continue as per law.
