2. May Take Years to Bring Ponzi Scamster to India

It is now clear that Vinay Shah, mastermind behind the Rs 260 crore Ponzi scam who was arrested in Pokhra, Nepal, will not be extradited to India anytime soon. This is because Shah can only be brought to India after he secures bail from Nepalese authorities and is released. Only then can Indian authorities claim his custody.

According to DGP CID (Crime) Ashish Bhatia, Shah is in judicial custody in Nepal and doesn’t have enough money to pay for bail. Here in Gujarat his bank accounts have been frozen and all his cash seized. Whereas in Nepal, the authorities there have seized all his cash.

Shah was arrested by Nepalese police after which his custody was transferred to department of revenue investigation, for illegally possessing Nepalese and foreign currency.
