1. SIT Court Chides Riot Witness, NGO

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is hearing the 200 Naroda Gam Massacre Case reprimanded a witness and a NGO extending legal support to victims-witnesses for addressing a letter to the court demanding quick proceedings in the case.

Special judge MK Dave issued notices to the witness Yasinkhan Anwarkhan Pathan and the NGO- Citizens for Justice and Peace. Yasin, who drafted his letter in the NGO office, had reminded the court that daily hearings were to be held as per Supreme Court’s directions.

Justice Dave, while reprimanding the concerned parties, told them that they should have approached the bench through their advocate instead of writing a letter. However, the witness’ advocate MA Shaikh had twice written to the court as only 45 hearings were held in 2018.

2. Money Stole from Gujarat ATMs Rose 10-Fold in Six Years

According to data submitted by the Reserve Bank of India to the Union Home Ministry, Gujarat recorded 27 cases of ATM-related thefts robberies and burglaries till September 2018. The total theft amounts to Rs 4.07 crore lost- it’s a 10-fold increase from 29 cases resulting in loss of Rs 43 lakh in 2013.

Gujarat is also fourth in total amount lost to ATM thefts, burglaries and robberies behind Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Nagaland. According to a senior Gujarat police official, although cops take all necessary actions to deter criminals, lack of proper security around ATM Centres make them Vulnerable.

In many cases the thief stole the ATM Machine which they later cut open to get money.

3. Man Posts Intimate Videos of Minor Girl, Arrested

A man was shocked to see lewd images of his 13-year-old sister on social media messaging apps which his own friend Anil Vaghela a resident of Amraiwadi shot. The brother rushed home only to learn that Vaghela had scared his sister into posing for photos and videos and threatened to make it viral if she didn’t meet him when he demanded.

The minor girl’s mother who is a widow and has six children approached the cops after Vaghela made the pictures and videos viral on social media. Sub Inspector of Amraiwadi police station CP Rao said that they have registered an offence under POCSO and arrested Vaghela.

According to police sources, Vaghela used to visit the girl’ house as he was her brother’s friend. He would feign love and on August 2018 called her to his home, where he stripped her and shot lewd pictures and videos.

4. Another Accused Nabbed in LRD Paper Leak Case

In joint operation conducted by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch and Gandhinagar Police, Suresh Pandya who is a resident of Nava Naroda and a key accused in the LRD Paper Leak Case was arrested on Sunday night.

According to police sources, Pandya was in touch with his Delhi counterpart, Manish Sharma who leaked the arrest; this is the 14th arrest in the case.

The police are still on the look out of Manish Sharma who is the kingpin of the case and he is also one of the main accused in the FCI exam paper leak case. According to Gandhinagar Police sources, Pandya who is a real estate agent could be involved in other paper leak cases.

5. Vibrant Gujarat summit to have special Africa day

There will be a special 'Africa day' as part of the ninth edition of the Vibrant Gujarat global investor summit next month, in which over 32 African countries are likely to take part, a senior state government official said Monday.

South Africa and Morocco are the partner countries for the Africa day celebrations to be held on 19 January, which will offer a platform for more engagement between Gujarat and Africa in the areas of strategic partnerships, trade and investment, principal tourism secretary SJ Haider said.

Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, Rwandan Prime Minister douard Ngirente, ministers of eight regional economic committees, and ambassadors of over 25 African countries will participate in the event. That apart over 250 business leaders, students, and over 800 Indian businessmen will also participate in the African Day celebrations, he said.
