1. Gujarat: Muslims Seek Extra Police Deployment in Ramzan

With the holy month of Ramzan beginning Monday, the Muslim community in Vadodara Sunday submitted a memorandum to the commissioner of police seeking additional police deployment in sensitive areas.

It has also sought permission to keep shops and street food stalls in the Muslim-dominated areas open till late in the night. There has been a history of communal clashes in places crowded with food stalls in the old city area.

2. State Gets Its First ‘Vulnerable Witness’ Deposition Centre

The first Vulnerable Witness Deposition Complex of Gujarat was inaugurated at the Vadodara district court complex by Acting Chief Justice Dave on Sunday. The HC is planning to set up similar centres for ensuring safe and comfortable environment to vulnerable witnesses, including victims of child sexual abuse, across the state.

4. Lawyers Protest Lack of Seats in Gujarat District Court, 11 Detained

Eleven lawyers were detained by Gotri police here for protesting against the lack of seating arrangements for them in the district court complex, even as the foundation stone for a new advocates’ building was laid by Acting Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court AS Dave on Sunday. They were released later in the day.

The protest has been going on for over a year, gaining momentum in the last 20 days with bar associations from across the state extending support to them.

5. Guj ATS Team Arrests History-Sheeter From Forest in Botad

A criminal accused in several cases of murder, extortion and robbery was Sunday arrested from a forest in Gujarat's Botad district Sunday by an Anti- Terrorism Squad team.

On receiving a tip-off that accused Jusab Allarakha, who had jumped parole in June last year and had allegedly carried out a murder, was hiding in the forest in Botad district, the Gujarat ATS constituted a five-member team, which included four women personnel.
