1. PM Modi on 2-day Guj Visit, to Attend DGPs' Meet
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Gujarat on 21 and 22 December to take part in an annual conference of state police chiefs and to address BJP women's wing workers, officials said on Wednesday.
The all-India conference of Directors General/ Inspectors General of Police is scheduled to be held near the Statue of Unity located in Narmada district from 20 December, an official said.
The three-day event would begin on 20 December in the presence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Modi would be attending the meet on 21 December, according to a release issued by the state government. The venue for the meet is a 'tent-city' set up near the 182-metre tall Statue of Unity, a government official said.

2. Farm Loan Waiver Not on Guj Govt's Mind, Hints Dy CM
Terming farm loan waiver a ‘short-term solution’, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Wednesday hinted that the BJP government in the state did not have any immediate plans to write off farmers' debts.
He made the remarks in the wake of the newly-formed Congress governments in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh announcing farm loan waivers, fulfilling a promise made by the party ahead of the Assembly polls.
Asked whether farmers in Gujarat could expect a similar relief here, Patel said the government had different plans, which were more effective than farm loan waivers. "Farm loan waiver is a short-term solution. Our aim is to offer a permanent solution to them. We want to make farmers prosperous.”

3. Sohrabuddin Encounter Case: Witness Wants to Be Re-Examined
Azam Khan, an associate of Sohrabuddin and Tulsiram, filed a plea before the special CBI court on Wednesday seeking re-examination as a witness stating that his testimony is ‘incomplete’.
He has also sought protection for himself and his wife Rizwana under the new witness protection scheme. However, Khan’s plea comes two days ahead of the court’s judgment in the case.
Khan also said that as he did not have the gumption to state significant portions of his testimony. Crucial material witnesses may also have been reluctant to come to court to depose . Khan sought them to be examined again after giving them benefit under the new witness protection scheme.

4. Life Ban on Driving If Caught on Wrong Side Twice in Gujarat
In order to curb driving on the wrong side, Ahmedabad Police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) have decided to blacklist repeat offenders caught twice.
According to the Traffic Police, if a person is caught driving on the wrong side, his an FIR will be lodged and his papers will be sent to RTO. RTO will then suspend his license for 3-6 months .
If the person is caught repeating the same offence he or she will be blacklisted and their license will be permanently revoked.. On Tuesday, the traffic police and RTO officials cancelled seven driving licences and plan to intensify the drive further

5. Ahmedabad Makes Highest Mutual Fund Investments in Gujarat: Report
Mutual Fund investments in Gujarat are increasing rapidly, thanks to Amdavadi investors. According to India Wealth Report launched by Karvy Private Wealth, Ahmedabad accounts for the highest amount of investments in Mutual Funds.
The report further states that Assets Under Management (AUM) for Amdavadi investors stood at Rs 79,251 crore out of the total Rs 1.57 lakh crore across Gujarat. Ahmedabad makes up for 50.4 percent of the total investments in Mutual Funds across the state.
Vadodara and Surat are a distant second and third with Rs 21,163 crores and Rs 15,288 crores respectively. Intrestingly on 34.8 percent of the investments made in Ahmedabad are in equity options.
