1. Ex-MLA Chhabil Patel Sent to 10-Day Police Custody in Jayanti Bhanushali Murder Case

Former MLA Chhabil Patel, arrested in connection to the murder of ex-MLA Jayanti Bhanushali, was remanded to police custody for ten days by a court on Friday, 15 March.

Patel, a prime accused in the Bhanushali murder case, was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, 14 March as soon as he landed at the Ahmedabad international airport.

The Special Investigative Team (SIT) probing the case produced Patel before a court in Bhachau, Kutch, and sought 14 days' remand of the accused. The SIT said the remand was necessary to get further details in the case, collect further evidence, ascertain if more people were involved in the crime, and other grounds.

2. Guj Cong Website Hacked, with Hardik’s Pic from Purported Sex Tape

Days after quota agitation leader Hardik Patel joined the Congress, an unidentified person hacked the official website of the Gujarat Congress and uploaded his photo, which appears to be a screenshot of one of his alleged sex videos that surfaced ahead of the 2017 polls.

In the photo, a person resembling Patel can be seen sitting on the bed with a girl and it is accompanied by a caption - "Welcome our new leader".

According to Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi, the website, "http://www.gujaratcongress.in", was taken down immediately by the party's IT team after spotting the "mischief".

3. HC Sets Aside Lower Court Order Staying Cong Leader's Conviction

In a jolt to Congress leader Bhagvan Barad, who was disqualified as an MLA after being found guilty in a theft case, the Gujarat High Court on Friday 15 March set aside a sessions court order that stayed his conviction.

Justice Sonia Gokani allowed the Gujarat government's plea to set aside the 7 March order of Veraval sessions court in Gir Somnath district, which had stayed Barad's conviction and a two-and-a-half year jail term awarded by a magistrate's court of Sutrapada taluka.

The magistrate's court had held Barad guilty of theft for excavating limestone worth Rs 2.83 crore through illegal mining on government land in 1995. In her order, Justice Gokani asked the sessions court to hear Barad's plea afresh "without further loss of time".

4. Patidar Leader Reshma Patel Quits BJP, Calls It ‘Marketing Company’

Accusing the BJP of running a “marketing company” to promote “hollow schemes,” Patidar quota stir leader Reshma Patel on Friday, 15 March tendered her resignation to the saffron party and announced to contest the upcoming elections to the Porbandar Lok Sabha seat and Manavadar Assembly constituency as an Independent if she is not offered any ticket from mainstream political parties,” Patel told reporters in Rajkot.

“I am resigning from the BJP by writing this resignation letter to state president Jitu Vaghani. I have decided to relieve myself from BJP as the party uses its workers and leaders only for marketing its ‘hollow’ schemes. I have also decided to contest the election from Porbandar Parliamentary constituency.

5. Support Innovators, President Ram Nath Kovind Says to Entrepreneurs

The president Ram Nath Kovind on Friday, 15 March advocated for support from entrepreneurs to innovators. He was addressing at an event 'FINE 2019', the Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship held at Gram Bharti Sansthan near Gandhinagar.

The president also gave away awards to grass root level innovators. Speaking at the gathering, he said, "We need to build an ecosystem for converting innovations into enterprises. These could be commercial or social enterprises, the form does not matter as long as the enterprise enables innovation to actually make an impact. This necessarily requires support for start-ups and for incubating young innovators."

6. Police Arrest Four for Violating PUBG Ban

On Friday, 15 March Ahmedabad police arrested four people from Rakhiyal and Satellite area of the city for playing PUBG. The arrest was made for violating the notification on ban of the popular video game PUBG. The game was banned after it was blamed for increasing violence among children.

A total of four accused were arrested from the city, out of which three were held by Satellite police from SG highway and while one was arrested by Rakhiyal police from Urbannagar crossroad.

MB Zala, Inspector of Satellite police station said, "We have arrested three people for playing PUBG. While two of the accused are 25-year-old, another is a 35-year-old man."
