1. Congress Dissolves Its Gujarat Unit; Chavda to Continue
The Congress on Wednesday, 23 October dissolved its Gujarat unit, but asked the state Congress chief Amit Chavda to continue.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal to dissolve the panel of office-bearers and executive committee of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, said a statement from Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president (Chavda) shall remain unchanged, it added.
The Gujarat unit would be revamped and a new body would be formed soon, party sources said here, but the dates for revamping were not announced.
Chief spokesperson of Gujarat Congress, Manish Doshi, said the decision was in line with former party president Rahul Gandhi's suggestion to promote those who can perform.

2. Counting of Votes for Six Assembly Bypolls on 24 October
Counting of votes for the by-elections held on 21 October for the six Assembly constituencies in Gujarat will be taken up on Thursday, 24 October.
Over 600 government employees and officers have been deployed to conduct the exercise which will begin at 8 am in respective constituencies spread across six districts, stated a release issued by Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer S Murali Krishna on Wednesday.
A voter turnout of 53.67 percent was recorded in the by-elections held for Tharad seat in Banaskantha district, Radhanpur in Patan, Kheralu in Mehsana, Bayad in Arvalli, Amraiwadi in Ahmedabad and Lunawada in Mahisagar district.

3. Ahead of Diwali, Ahmedabad Police Bans Online Purchase, Sale of Firecrackers
Ahead of Diwali, the Ahmedabad Police has banned the online purchase or sale of firecrackers through e-commerce websites such as Amazon, Flipkart and others. The notification has come as per a 2018 order by the Supreme Court that banned online sale of firecrackers.
As per a proclamation notification dated 23 October 2019, issued by Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner AK Singh, “Sale and purchase of firecrackers through Flipkart, Amazon or any e-commerce website is prohibited.”
“We have released a proclamation backed by legal order of the honourable Supreme Court. Any person found violating the order will be booked by the police and action will be taken…,” the police commissioner said.
“We intend to spread awareness ahead of Diwali so that any person who might, under innocence, try to purchase crackers online can we warned beforehand,” Comissioner Singh added.
4. One Dead and Five Injured as Slab Collapses in Ahmedabad Commercial Complex
One died and five others were injured when the gallery and part of a staircase of a commercial complex in Maninagar area of Ahmedabad collapsed on Tuesday night.
According to police, the incident occurred in Kinnel Cham-bers building near Bhualbhai Park intersection in Kankaria of Maninagar area in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night when the slab of a gallery on first floor and part of the staircase collapsed.
Police said at least six persons were on the ground floor where the slab collapsed, killing one of them.

5. Power Theft: Ahmedabad Man Gets 3 Years Rigorous Imprisonment
Eight years after officials of Torrent Power Limited (TPL) caught an Ahmedabad-based resident for electricity theft of Rs 12,789, a city civil and sessions court awarded three years rigorous imprisonment to the accused on Tuesday, 22 October.
According to a spokesperson of TPL, the accused, Amanat Khan Pathan, a resident of Allanagar in Behrampura of Ahmedabad, was charged with stealing electricity by illegally connecting his house line directly with the TPL distribution, even after his connection was cut.
“On March 15, 2011, a team of TPL visited the site and found that though electricity connection S/-2267820 was disconnected, the accused was drawing electricity directly from the distribution system of TPL to run appliances at his house. There was unauthorised use of electricity by mode of direct theft without the use of meter,” said Jayesh Desai, executive director, TPL.
