1. GST Lessons for Commerce Student in Gujarat
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) announced that from 2019 onwards Class 11 and 12 commerce students in Gujarat will learn to calculate Goods and Services Tax (GST). Textbooks issued by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) introduced demonetisation and GST this year.
Chairman of GSHSEB said that the board has consulted with the commerce and law department of the state government for this purpose. Class 11 and 12 will have one chapter on GST. Education Minister Bhupindersinh Chudasma said that a number of issues were put forth by the business community when GST was introduced.
According to Chudasma, the course was introduced at school level to create more awareness and students can get acquainted to GST concepts soon.

2. Gujarat ATS Nabs Counterfeiter From Mumbai
Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) arrested Jyush Shaikh, a native of Malda in West Bengal from Mumbai on Friday. Jyush was wanted and on the run in the Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) case registered by Bhuj Police, who had seized fake notes with a face value of Rs 1.61 lakh. Shaikh has been handed over to Bhuj Police.
AST officials said that fake currency notes seized by Bhuj police in May 2016 were of the highest quality. ATS had information that Shaikh was still active in circulating fake currency note in Gujarat and was in Mumbai for the same purpose. His interrogation revealed that the fake currency was brought into the country from Bangladesh through Malda in West Bengal.

3. Guj Edu Board Uncovers 1,400 Cheating Cases
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) ha unearthed a scam wherein authorities concerned turned a blind eye to students caught cheating on camera. The board has recorded 1,400 case of cheating in the HSC (science and general stream), which is 85 per cent of the total 1,662 cheating cases reported through CCTV monitoring in 2017-18.
The board has issued show cause notices to District Education Officers (DEOs) of 12 districts which include Dahod, Gir-Somnath, Surendranagar, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Botad. The DEOs were to screen CCTV footage and report cheating cases . The board has questioned the officers asking why action should not be taken against them.

4. Gujarat HC Seeks Probe Report in the SUV Gangrape Case
The Gujarat High Court ordered the city police to produce the final investigation report in the Satellite Gangrape Case by 30 November. The complainant’s father had moved the HC demanding that the persons accused in the case- Vrushabh Maru, Gaurav Dalmiya and Yamini Nair- should not be allowed prove their innocence through narco-analysis.
This request was made to the police earlier, which was ignored as the police claimed that the accused did not cooperate during interrogation. The petitioner has claimed that the rape survivor’s complaint ‘is viewed with the aid of spectacles fitted lenses tinged with doubt, disbelief and suspicion.

5. Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor Seeks Survey of OBCs in Gujarat
Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor on Friday said he would approach the Gujarat OBC Commission soon with a demand for a survey of all the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the state to find out if they have benefited from the existing reservation system.
Thakor's statement came a day after Patidar quota leader Hardik Patel approached the commission with a demand to conduct a survey of the Patel community to prove their social and economic backwardness so that its members become eligible for reservation in jobs and education under the OBC category.
"I believe that a survey of OBC castes should be carried out so that we would know how much they actually benefited from the reservation. Our delegation would meet the OBC Commission soon with this demand," Thakor said. In Gujarat, there are a total of 146 castes listed under the OBC category, also known as Socially and Educationally Backward Classes.
