1. FIR Against 6 for Taking Selfie at Vastrapur Police Station

Vastrapur police on Wednesday, 16 January, filed an FIR in the ‘selfie at police station’ case in which some persons detained in a prohibition case from Gurukul had clicked their pictures and posted on social media from the police station itself on Tuesday, 15 January.

The cops were in a dilemma as to which sections of the IPC can be slapped upon the persons who clicked the selfie in the police station in which one of them was seen wearing a police cap in the picture. Later, they decided to book them under IPC 151 for constituting assembly which may cause a disturbance of the public peace.

2. 5,400 Cops on Toes for Vibrant Gujarat Summit

Special security arrangements have been made for the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar from 18-20 January. A total of 4,000 police officers will be pressed into action for the event. Besides, dedicated teams will manage traffic and parking at the venue.

Another 1,400 police personnel will be deployed for PM's visit to Ahmedabad for the inauguration of the new building of VS hospital on Thursday, 17 January.

At the Sardar Patel International and Domestic airport, more than 150 police officers have been deployed for security and special arrangements have been made by the Ahmedabad Traffic Police Department to avoid congestion.

3. PM to Unveil Statue of Dr Vikram Sarabhai

A statue of Dr Vikram Sarabhai, the father of Indian space programme, will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sabarmati Riverfront on Thursday evening, 17 January.

It is at the insistence of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation that the unveiling was being done by the PM, said danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, the daughter of the visionary scientist and innovator.

4. State-of-the-Art Public Hospital is Ready

Gujarat’s tallest medical facility, the 18-storey Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Medical Research Centre (SVPMRC) on the VS Hospital campus is set to set a benchmark in super speciality healthcare.

The facility is a pathbreaker and a big divergence from the usual government hospitals. “We will not be shifting staff or equipment from the old VS Hospital to SVPMRC. In fact we are planning to upgrade facilities at VS Hospital,” said Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra.

5. Western Railway Engineer Gets Place in Limca Book

Vimlesh Chandra, the assistant mechanical engineer of Western Railway currently posted in Ahmedabad, has a unique hobby, which has earned him a place in the Limca Book of Records.

Chandra has collected over 300 photos of railway coaches with unique numbers like 00123, 14444, 01234 and 00001 among others.

Speaking about his hobby, Chandra said, “I was posted in Bhavnagar where I saw a coach numbered 00001 which was an AC coach. Realising that this was a unique number I took photographs of the same. This was the turning point and I decided to keep an eye out for coaches coming with unique numbers,” he said.

6. Who Ordered Fake Encounters in Gujarat, Victims' Kin Question

Relatives of victims of three fake encounters in Gujarat have sought that the Supreme Court should direct the Justice Bedi Committee to further investigate and find out who ordered the fake encounters.

Relatives of Samir Khan, Haji Ismail and Kasam Jafar said that while they welcome the report, which had said that the three encounters were fake, they also wanted a probe into the role of the then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah and other top police officers. They plan to move the SC in this connection.

7. $15 Trillion of Assets Under One Roof at VGS

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a roundtable discussion with 29 sovereign fund managers who jointly have assets under management of $15 trillion, which is more than the GDP of China ($12.7 trillion) and more than five times the GDP of India ($2.68 trillion) in 2018.

It is for the first time that sovereign funds will participate in Vibrant Gujarat at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

Commenting on the roundtable, additional Chief Secretary (finance) Arvind Agrawal said, “Sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and institutional investors own and manage assets worth trillions of dollars with huge investments in large infrastructure projects such as airports, railroads, roads, urban infrastructure and industrial infrastructure. With several large and marquee projects in infrastructure sector at various stage of development in India, it was felt that an exclusive interaction between heads of global funds and the prime minister will pave the way for their investment into infrastructure projects in India.”
