1. Gujarat Tops in Fake Note Seizures among 17 Bordering states

Between 2015-2017 Gujarat continued to reign at top when it came to seizures of counterfeit currency among the 17 bordering states. After demonetisation, Rs 10.16 crore Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) was seized in 2017-2018 as compared Rs 3.96 seized between 2015-2016.

The data was pulled from National Crime Record Bureau presented before Lok Sabha on 1 January. In 2018 Rs 1.15 crore was seized in Gujarat, placing it second after West Bengal where Rs 1.40 crore FCIN was seized.

2. Include Child Rights in Poll Manifesto, Parties Told

Under the umbrella of Child Rights Collective Gujarat (CRCG), around 13 child rights organisations have prepared a manifesto asking political parties to promise child rights policy and inclusion of Right to Education (RTE) till the age of 18 years in their manifestos for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Created with the support of UNICEF, the manifesto was released after a 3-day workshop concluded in Ahmedabad. Nearly 60 children representing the 13 child rights outfits active in 10 districts took part.

3. 2-Year-Old Killed, Another Injured in Leopard Attacks

In Chhota Udepur district on Sunday, two separate leopard attacks were reported from Bandi village in Pavi Jetpur taluka. In the first incident, a leopard attacked an eight-year-old girl.

Villagers managed to rescue her and she was rushed to Bodeli with severe neck injuries. She was later referred to Vadodara SSG hospital. In the second incident, a two-year-old boy was killed by a leopard in the same village.

4. Over 12,000 Schools in Gujarat Have One or Two Teachers

According to a survey conducted by the Gujarat Education Department, 12,000 of the 32,772 government schools run in the state have only one or two teachers employed there for teaching. The survey also revealed that there are 15,171 schools with less than 100 students in attendance.

Most of these schools have classes up to class X and the two teachers employed there conduct all classes. The government may shut down schools with less than 100 students in attendance. According to the government, reluctance of teachers to teach in rural areas is the crux of the problem.

5. India's First Greenfield Ind City Dholera Ready to Take Off

India's first greenfield industrial city at Dholera in Gujarat is ready to take off, with basic infrastructural facilities for its first phase of development are set to be completed by this September, according to officials.

Dholera, is being developed from the scratch as a smart city, where the government will build robust infrastructure for industrial development in this saline region near the Gulf of Khambhat.

“Basic infrastructure for the the Dholera Special Investment Region, initiation area of 22.5 kms will be ready by September 2019,” CEO of Dholera Special Investment Region Development Authority (DSIRDA) Jai Prakash Shivhare told reporters Sunday.

"Many countries, especially China, are developing new cities. India has developed many green field cities," he said, adding that Dholera is the first greenfield industrial city that is being developed in the country.
