1. Five Dogs Attacked With Acid in a Week, One Suffers Severe Burns
Police have launched an investigation after five dogs in a residential society of Ahmedabad have been attacked with acid in a span of one week, allegedly by an unknown person/group of persons.
According to police, the incident occurred in Chandralok Society in Ghodasar area of Ishanpur in Ahmedabad, where four stray dogs and one pet dog were attacked with acid.
The incident was brought to light when an NGO Animals Life Care’ reached Chandralok society on Saturday evening, after receiving complaint of acid attacks on multiple dogs.
“There were four stray dogs living in Chandralok Society and they went missing in the past one week. However, we received a call on Friday and Saturday that residents spotted four dogs with acid injuries on them. We treated the dogs on spot and found that two of them had burns on their face while the others had injuries on their backs. One female stray has been admitted to a veterinary hospital with severe burns. It appears that a person or a group of persons lured these dogs by offering food and then attacked them with acid,” said Vijay Dabhi, associated with Animal Life Care NGO.

2. 3 Killed, 4 Fishermen Missing After Heavy Rain Batters Southern Gujarat
Heavy rains hit the southern parts of Gujarat in the past 24 hours resulting in the death of three people. Four fishermen are suspected to have drowned when their boat capsized off the coast of Gir Somnath on Saturday night (28 September), state disaster relief officials said.
The first incident happened in Rajkot, where a car with four people on board was swept away by a strong water current in the inundated causeway over Fofal river. A man was rescued by local villagers, but three women died, said a police official. The four relatives were on their way to attend a marriage.
According to the police, a boat carrying four fishermen capsized in the Arabian Sea off Nava Bandar coast in Gir Somnath district on Saturday evening. A team comprising of Coast Guard and marine police are trying to locate the four missing fishermen.
“The boat owner learnt on Sunday morning that the vessel had capsized. While three fishermen on board managed to swim to safety, four others are still missing,” said a local police official.

3. Rickshaw Drivers to Go off Road Against Exorbitant Fines
Close to 2.2 lakh rickshaw drivers in Ahmedabad will stay away from the roads on 3 October.
The strike has been called to protest against a host of issues, that includes the multifold rise in fines for traffic and parking violations under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, rise in the prices of fuel and insurance.
The auto-rickshaw drivers feel that the rise in the cost is making the profession unviable. They have also said that while there should be a hike in fines, it should not be unbearable to the extent that it squeezes all the earnings.
They have also demanded that auto-rickshaws should be made an exception as it provides job to the masses and thus the hike in fines should be restricted.

4. Govt's New Measures Will Boost the Economy: BJP MP Kirit Solanki
BJP MP Kirit Solanki on Saturday, 28 September said that the BJP government was not the only one to seek funds from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and that previous governments had also done so.
The Ahmedabad West MP along with fellow MP Hasmukh Patel (Ahmedabad East) was in the city for a press conference to give details about the economic initiatives of the BJP government and how it had helped the economy.
He said the doing away of surcharge on capital gains, reduction of corporate tax etc will give a boost to the economy. "No other country perhaps has such low corporate tax as India does. It is lower than what is in China," said Solanki.
To a question on the rising debt of the government, Solanki said that all government's have debt. "But its is imperative for governments to make efforts for the poor and the farmers. All our initiatives were definitely needed," said Solanki.

5. Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry Urges Companies to Speed up Insurance Claims
Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) wrote to general insurance companies saying that the insurance companies should expedite the claims of losses to businesses caused due to the recent heavy rains.
The rains had resulted in huge losses in places like Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat as well as in parts of Saurashtra and north Gujarat.
Businesses are already facing a slowdown, they are also complaining of a shortage of liquidity in the market. Under such conditions, rains in July and August had caused damage to goods and properties.
If insurance claims are expedited, businesses will get the much needed funds, said sources. Gujarat has received more than 125% of average yearly rainfall. Consequently, industry and trade have been severely affected in majority districts of the state.
