1. Tension in Anand Village After Scheduled Caste Members Banned From Temple
Security was tightened in a village in Anand on Monday, 19 August, after a few youths allegedly from an upper caste community put up a notice banning entry of Scheduled Caste members from a temple.
The message, “Harijan (Scheduled Caste) not allowed inside”, was found on the notice board outside Somnath Mahadev Temple in Amrol village under Aanklav Taluka on Monday.

2. With Over 300 Projects, Pharmaceutical Industry to Get a Boost
Over 300 projects to manufacture medicines and other pharmaceutical products are coming up in the state, said a top state official. This will help the state increase its share in the country's pharmaceutical manufacturing from around 33% at present to 40% in a few years.
He also said that efforts are on to increase the country's capacity to produce bulk drugs that are used as raw materials for making medicines for long-term strategic interest of the country.

3. Rough Diamonds From MP Mines May Be Auctioned in Surat
Rough diamonds from mines in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh could soon be auctioned in Surat, the hub of India’s diamond cutting and polishing industry.
A team from the National Mineral Development Corporation of the Government of India, which runs the mines in Madhya Pradesh, is expected to come to Surat on 26 August to carry out a survey ahead of conducting such an auction.
There are large deposits of diamonds in the mines in Panna district, which the diamond merchants of Surat consider are of good colour, clarity and purity.

4. Heads up Sex Offenders! Cops Hot on Your Heels
From Tuesday, 20 August, the ladies compartments in trains running between Ahmedabad and Mumbai at night are being escorted by mahila decoy teams of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP).
More than 20 teams have been officially deployed for the job, in which an officer in uniform will also be present. They will escort women passengers safely to their destination.

5. Narmada Dam Water Level 5 Metres Short of Upper Limit
The water level in the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam at Kevadiya on Tuesday, 20 August, rose to 133 metres, just five metres short of its upper limit, due to heavy inflow of water from upstream, officials said.
The water level crossed the 133-metre mark on Tuesday in the dam where Full Reservoir Level (FRL) is 138.63 metres, owing to an inflow of 2.9 lakh cusecs of water following rain in catchment areas, as well as water released by Madhya Pradesh, according to Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) officials. Villages along the river bank have been alerted and asked to restrain movement.
