A video of a patient being abused by a man believed to be hospital staff has emerged from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, Mathrubhumi English reported on 29 March. The video shows a man in an orderly’s uniform aggressively tugging at an emaciated, bedridden patient’s arm.
The below video, was shared by Asianet News, Mathrubhumi English and CNN News-18.
The patient is believed to be a man named Vasu, Mathrubhumi English reported. While it’s not clear from the video what kind of damage the attendant, allegedly called Sunil Kumar, did to the weakened patient, the report added that he "can be seen breaking the fingers of the patient.”
Mathrubhumi reported that Vasu is a resident of Villakkupara, Anchal in Kerala’s Kollam district
It’s unclear when the video was shot. However, CNN News-18, Mathrubhumi English, as well as Asianet News reported that the incident took place in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, possibly referring to Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. CNN News-18 reported that the incident took place in the orthopaedic ward of the hospital, while Mathrubhumi said that it was at ‘Ward 15’ of the Government Medical College’s hospital.
Mathrubhumi English added that Kerala Education Minister KK Shylaja has ordered a probe into the incident. The probe will be carried out under the supervision of the hospital’s medical superintendent and deputy superintendent.
