Senior IPS officer and deputy director of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy K Madhukar Shetty lost his life to H1N1 on Friday, 28 December. He was 47 years old and had been battling swine flu-induced pneumonia for about a week in a private hospital in Hyderabad.
He was thought to be on the road to recovery on Thursday as a hospital announcement declared that he was being put on the ECMO support system, a life support system for critically ill patients. However, he breathed his last around 8:15 pm on 28 December.
He had played a key role in the Karnataka Lokayukta’s inquiry into the illegal mining scam in Ballari, and was widely regarded as an upright officer.
