With 624 marks out of 625, Mohammad Kaif Mulla was the joint topper in the Karnataka State Board Class 10 exams, but he wasn't content, for he had to share the top spot with another student.
After scoring full marks in all subjects save for science, Kaif, a student from St Xavier High School, Belgaum, decided to apply for revaluation, and his effort paid off. The board declared that Kaif had scored cent percent marks in all subjects, thereby making him the sole topper among a staggering 13 lakh students.
Son of two teachers, Kaif aspires to be a civil servant and has decided to opt for the science stream in Class 11.
His father Haroon Rashid Mulla and mother Parveen Mulla teach Urdu and Kannada respectively at government schools. In an interview to news website Twocircles.net, Kaif said that he was confident of scoring full marks in all subjects.
"After answering the papers, I confirmed all my written answers with my teachers, notebooks and model answer sheet. Fortunately, I found my all the answers were absolutely correct. Earlier, I got 624 (99.86%) marks but after re-evaluation, my result was as per my expectation," Kaif told Twocircles.net.
The 15-year-old wishes to work on the matters that concern the society and child labour, he says, is the “biggest problem of our country”, despite having so many laws against it.
"When I will become a part of the policy-making frame, these marginalised child labourers will be my priority. I will do my best to provide proper education for them. Because only education only has the capacity to bring an individual out of the worst living conditions," he further told the website.
