Veteran film star Kamal Haasan met his fans on Thursday, amid indications that he has been planning an entry into politics. The fans, however, insisted that the discussions revolved solely around his birthday and welfare-related activities, reported PTI.
"We discussed what can be done for his birthday, which is on November 7. We discussed only the welfare activities," Thangavelu, a senior member of the Kamal Haasan Welfare Club, told reporters after the meeting.
“We only do welfare activities and he (Haasan) stressed that we took up more of such initiatives.”Thangavelu, senior member of the Kamal Haasan Welfare Club
Kamal Haasan has welfare clubs, that take up various social work activities in place of fan clubs.
This meeting comes at a time when a section of the media is reporting that Haasan, who has been dropping hints about entering politics, might formally take the plunge on his birthday.
Media reports recently quoted Rajnikanth saying, "If you have to succeed in politics, merely name, fame, and money are not enough. Apart from this, there is something bigger which we need. Maybe Kamal Haasan knows what it is. If I had asked him two months ago, maybe he would have told me. Now, when I ask him, he says 'come with me, and I’ll tell you’".
The actor has been politically active of late, levelling corruption charges against the K Palaniswami-led AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu and slamming the state government over the spread of dengue, reported PTI.
His outburst against the government has prompted strong responses from ministers, including Palaniswami himself, who have lashed out at the film star.
