With only hours left for the much-awaited film Kaala to be released, superstar Rajinikanth has headed out of town. A lot of expectations are pinned on the film, despite promotions being meek, as this politically-loaded film is the first since the actor announced his entry into politics.

With the film fraternity in Karnataka saying they are banning the movie in the state, Rajinikanth has appealed to the Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy for security .

Some people are protesting against Kaala in Karnataka. I only talked about the SC order on Cauvery and asked Karnataka to ensure it is implemented. What is wrong in that?

This comes at a time when the Supreme Court has refused to stall the release of the movie Kaala.

The actor also said that cinema and politics should ideally not be mixed.

“I understand HD Kumaraswamy's situation. This is not good for Karnataka. When the film is released around the world, the Karnataka ban would highlight the issue (Cauvery water dispute),” he said.

A few days back, the actor had sided with Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery issue saying no matter which party comes to power, Karnataka should release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had responded by asking the actor to visit the state and see the condition of farmers and the water level in the dams before commenting on the matter.

While speaking to reporters the actor made quite a statement by speaking in Tamil and Kannada.

Addressing people of Karnataka as his ‘brothers’, he said, “I request you to allow those who want to see the film and give your cooperation to release the movie. This is a humble request from me.”

Rajinikanth is off to Kolkata today for shooting his next movie, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Sources say that the first schedule is planned for 18 days and it may be extended or reduced depending on the weather.
