Opposition parties in Delhi slammed the AAP government following the arrest of Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar. He was arrested on charges of cheating and fraud in obtaining law degree.
BJP Calls it a Black Day
Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay demanded Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to resign for allegedly not taking action against Tomar. He said law should take its own course and Kejriwal should have acted earlier for Tomar’s resignation.
The kind of charges levelled against him (Tomar), have been completely investigated. Police thinks 10 times before arresting a minister. And hence, police had been to the university and all the places. Definitely, it is a black day in the political history of Delhi.
- Satish Upadhyay, Delhi BJP leader
The BJP leader also claimed that there was no politics of vengeance involved in Tomar’s arrest by Delhi Police, which is under control of BJP-led Central government.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Kiran Bedi came out in support of Delhi Police saying “Police must have conducted long investigation to collect evidences and there must be very solid evidence to confront him, otherwise I don’t think they would have done this with the Law minister.”
Congress Joins the Chorus
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken blamed Delhi government for not appointing Lokayukta and said, “The bar council had lodged a complaint that the law minister of Delhi has forged law degree, so the police has acted”.
The reason for not appointing Lokayukta is that it’s not only the law minister but there are many other MLAs also who are alleged to have fake degrees.
- Ajay Maken, DPCC President
Slamming Modi government AAP leader Ashutosh compared the situation with emergency and said, “An emergency like situation has been created by the Modi government, this is what he had done in Gujarat and the same he is doing today...this is against democracy.”
