JeM ‘Threatens’ to Target UP CM Yogi, Delhi CM, RSS Chief Bhagwat

The Uttar Pradesh police has sounded an alert after letters threatening to target Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, railway stations, temples and bus stations were received by the Shamli station master on Wednesday, 24 April, reported ANI.

The letter purportedly threatened to targeting railway stations and temples in Varanasi and Ayodhya.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, UP Director of General OP Singh said that the letters are claimed to have been written by Jammu and Kashmir area commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammed. He also added that the letter threatens to target several railway stations in western UP and carry out blasts at temples in UP, Delhi and Haryana.

The letters spoke about carrying out blasts at various railway stations in Shamli, Baghpat, Meerut, Gajraula, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar and other places on 13 May. The letter purportedly spoke about targeting ‘Ram Janam Bhoomi’ in Ayodhya on 16 May. 

Singh said the anti-terror squad and district police officials have been asked to investigate the matter and stay on alert. The central agencies too have been informed the letter.

Another senior police officer told the daily that the letter could be an act of mischief but can’t be taken lightly.
