A day after former finance minister and senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha wrote a scathing article in the Indian Express on Arun Jaitely’s ‘mishandling of the economy’, his son and current Civil Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha wrote a rejoinder of sorts for the Times of India on Thursday.

Pointing fingers at his father’s article, Jayant writes that recent articles criticising the economy have been based on a ‘narrow set of facts’ missing the reforms that are creating a ‘new economy’.

In his article, Yashwant Sinha had pointed out that the growth rate of the economy had slumped to 5.7 percent in the first quarter of the fiscal, ‘the lowest in three years.’

Rebuking his claim, Jayant said that data from ‘one or two quarters’ is not enough to substantiate the impact of the economic reforms currently underway. He then went on to elaborate the various measures and programmes such as the UDAN and Bankruptcy code, apart from GST and demonetisation, to validate his arguments.

Speaking to Times Now, Yashwant Sinha took a jibe at Jayant Sinha’s authority to answer the points that he had raised in his article.

If they (BJP) thought he was very competent to reply to the points I had raised, then my question is why was he shifted from the ministry of finance?

Jayant Sinha, prior to being the civil aviation minister, was the minister of state for finance from 2014 to 2016.
