In what is being widely called the effect of demonetisation on the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, suspected militants on Thursday robbed a bank in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, decamping with Rs 11 lakh, police said.
Reports say some four militants barged into the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Rantipora in Pulwama district and took away Rs 11 lakh from the branch before fleeing.
Local residents started pelting stones at police who arrived on the scene soon after the heist, say reports. This is yet another bank robbery in the spate of similar ones by militants since the Centre's announcement of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on November 8.
