After a senior professor called Bhagat Singh a “terrorist,” the University of Jammu has suspended him from teaching.
Tajuddin, a professor of political science at the university referred to Bhagat Singh as “terrorist” during a lecture. One of the students posted the video of the lecture which went viral on social media. The university vice-chancellor Manoj Dhar ordered a probe into the incident, after students wrote him a letter demanding action. The university also asked him to refrain from taking classes until the inquiry is over.
Tajuddin, however, has said that his statement was taken out of context and misinterpreted.
“I was teaching Lenin (Russian revolutionary) and in that context, I said state calls any violence against it ‘terrorism’. Someone took a 25-second video out of my 2-hrs lecture. Terrorist word came in that, it wasn’t what I meant. Still, if anyone is hurt, I’m really sorry for it.”Tajuddin, to ANI
“I also consider Bhagat Singh a revolutionary. He is one of the people who sacrificed their lives for the country,” he added.
According to ANI, VC Manoj Dhar formed a 6-member committee to look into the incident. “Let's wait for outcome of the inquiry committee and based on that, we'll take further action,” he told ANI.
