A 36-year-old Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) worker, identified as M Ishaaq, was hacked to death in Tanur in Kerala's Malappuram district on Thursday, 24 October, around 7:30 pm, The News Minute reported.

IUML, which is the Congress’ biggest ally in the state, has reportedly accused CPI(M) workers of attacking and murdering Ishaaq.

"This is an unfortunate incident and the CPM has nothing to do with incident. If at all anyone with party affiliations is found accused in this case, strict action will be taken and no one will be shielded." CPM district secretary EN Mohandas told NDTV, denying the accusation.

"We have registered a case against 4 workers of the CPI(M). We are still investigating other details in the case,” a local police officer told TNM.

Preliminary investigations have reportedly revealed that swords and knives were used to hack the victim to death.

This attack is the latest in a series of politically motivated killings prevalent in the state.
