Navy, Coast Guard Personnel Participate in Yoga Day in Mumbai
The flight deck of decommissioned aircraft carrier Viraat provided the perfect location for Yoga camp for personnel of the Western Naval Command.
The personnel were joined by Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command and Rear Admiral RB Pandit, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet.
"Western Naval Command has always encouraged its officers and men to pursue and excel in sports, adventure and physical fitness," a Defence spokesperson said.
Over 10,000 personnel took part in Yoga camps organised by Western Naval Command, at various places including Karwar, Goa and units based at Gujarat and Naval Station Karanja, the spokesperson said.
Farmers Perform 'Shavasana' in up to Protest Govt Policies
A group of farmers performed 'shavasana' or the corpse pose on a national highway to symbolically protest killing of farmers in Mandsaur and "anti-farm" policies of the Modi government.
As the Prime Minister performed yoga in Lucknow along with the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the farmers under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) performed 'shavasana' on the Lucknow-Barabanki Highway.
Shavasana or corpse pose gets its name from the posture of a dead body.
BKU spokesman Alok Verma told PTI, "Hundreds of farmers performed 'shavasana' on Lucknow-Barabaki Highway near Safedabad between 9 am to 11 am as part of our protest today".
Cong Leaders Perform 'Shavasan' to Highlight Farmers' Plight
As Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan led yoga enthusiasts in performing 'asanas' on the International Yoga Day, the Congress leaders carried out the 'Shavasan,' the corpse pose, to highlight farmers' plight in the state.
Chouhan, while addressing a gathering of yoga enthusiasts at the Lal Parade ground here, underlined the importance of the traditional practice in promoting wellness.
Meanwhile, some Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders performed 'Shavasan' at the party's state headquarters here.
State Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi said the programme was organised to highlight the farmers' plight in MP.
He said their event was also to protest the killing of five cultivators in police firing in Mandsaur recently and the increasing incidents of farmers' suicides.
He said Congress leaders across the state organised such programmes.
