Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday, 19 July said that India will get a new Prime Minister after the elections but Yadav avoided a direct reply when asked whether his party would support Rahul Gandhi as prime minister.

“The country wants to see a new government at the Centre. People want to see a new prime minister. You will see a new prime minister after the (2019) elections,” he said when asked whether he saw himself or the Congress president as the next prime minister.

Lashing out at the BJP government, Yadav went on to say that people were unhappy with the various decisions made by the government which included demonetisation, unemployment and the roll out of GST, reported Hindustan Times.

He also alleged that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh had cheated farmers with “a false promise of farm loan waiver”.

On the being questioned about the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, Yadav said that his party would contest the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, but did not clarify whether it would enter into alliance with the Congress or the BSP.

Our discussions are going on with several people, but I will not disclose anything now.

"Investigating agencies have yet to conclude the probe of Vyapam scam (a scam related to recruitment in government jobs and admissions in educational institutes). This scam has claimed several lives," Yadav added.

The Centre's data shows that MP tops the country in the crime against women, but the BJP has mastered the art of distracting people's attention from real issues, the SP leader said.
