3. ED to Question Indrani Mukerjea in Karti Chidambaram PMLA Case

A special CBI court in Mumbai, which is conducting the trial in the Sheena Bora murder case, on 23 November allowed the Enforcement Directorate to question key accused Indrani Mukerjea in connection with a money laundering case against her and others, including former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son, Karti.

4. Shimla Rape Case: Accused Colonel Gets Three-Day Police Remand

The 56-year-old Colonel arrested on 23 November for allegedly raping a fellow officer’s adopted daughter was on Thursday remanded to three-day police custody by a local court even as the girl, in her statement recorded under section 164 of the CrPC, reiterated her charges against him.

Shimla Superintendent of Police Soumya Sambasivan said a medical examination of the girl had been done, but because of some doubts on the report and the findings, the matter had now been referred to the state’s Forensic Science Lab (FSL). “The girl, in an FIR lodged on 21 November, had stated that beside the accused Colonel, there was also another person at his house. Today, she modified her version and we have accordingly amended the FIR. As per her new statement, there was no third person at the Colonel’s house where the alleged incident happened,” the SP said.

Meanwhile, the police have taken into custody the mobile phones of the girl and the Colonel to analyse their locations and call details. After the Colonel’s arrest on Wednesday, the police had examined his WhatsApp posts and call details, which reportedly established that the girl had sent him photographs and some messages.

5. Panchkula Triple Murder: Motive May Be Property, Not Father's Affair, Say Police

A man allegedly shot dead three of his cousin brother’s children at Sarsa village in Haryana’s Kurukshetra this weekend because he was eyeing about 12 acres of farmland owned by their father, police said on Thursday.

The property motive gave a dramatic twist to the gruesome triple murder as the suspect, Jagdeep Malik, had initially alleged that the children’s father, Sohan Malik, or Sonu, asked him to kill them to clear the way to marry a woman with whom he was suspected to be having an extramarital affair.

Jagdeep had told police that Sonu promised to pay him handsomely after his second marriage.

But police were not convinced with Jagdeep’s alleged confession when he was arrested after the bodies of 11-year-old Sameer, Simran and Samar, aged eight and three, were found in a forest in Morni on Tuesday, nearly 110 km away from their village.

The 26-year-old Jagdeep, father of a three-year-old child, was remanded in police custody as investigators suspect he was hiding the truth.

6. Delhi 4-Year-Old Booked for Rape: Legal Experts Say No Grounds to Register Case

After booking a four-year-old for allegedly sexually assaulting his classmate at a west Delhi school, Police on Thursday remained undecided about to proceed with the case even as legal experts questioned the grounds of filing the FIR.

Delhi Police said they went ahead and filed the FIR against the child only because they were following the “policy of registering a FIR without delay”.

“The FIR can be cancelled, but there should be no delay in lodging a complaint. The case was registered only after proper legal consultation. We were thoroughly professional in our work while staying sensitive to the fact that the victim as well as the suspect were small children,” Dependra Pathak, Delhi Police’s chief spokesperson said.

The Indian Penal Code says a child aged below seven years cannot be prosecuted. “Nothing is an offence which is done by a child under seven years of age,” the IPC section 82 days.

A case was registered against the boy on 18 November after the mother of the four-year-old girl complained that he allegedly sexually assaulted her. The complaint said he allegedly used his finger and a pencil to assault her.
