1. Man Lynched in Jharkhand Over Child-Lifting Rumour

A 32-year-old daily wage labourer succumbed to his injuries on Saturday a day after a mob allegedly thrashed him after suspecting him of being a child lifter at Koderma in Jharkhand, his family said even as the state police said that their preliminary probe suggested that he was beaten up for alleged theft.

Koderma’s sub-divisional police officer, Rajendra Prasad, cited the investigation and said it suggested it was not a case of lynching over child lifting rumours as the family of the labourer, Sunil Yadav, has claimed.

2. UP: Man Arrested for ‘Raping’ 70-Year-Old Woman

A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in a Baghpat village Monday afternoon. The woman said that when she was outside her house, the man dragged her to nearby bushes and raped her.

The police said that she raised an alarm and local residents rushed to her rescue. The accused was captured and beaten before being handed over to police.

3. Ahmedabad: Two-Day-Old Bodies of Young Couple Found in Flat

Police found the bodies of a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman two days after they allegedly ended their lives inside a flat that they were living in at a residential society in Odhav area of Ahmedabad.

Police reached Krishna apartments in Chhota Lal ni Chaali of Odhav on Monday night after complaints from neighbours about a bad odour emanating from one of the flats of the society. Upon breaking into the flat, police discovered the body of the man hanging from the ceiling fan while the body of the woman was on the bed. Police suspect that the couple might have ended their lives between Saturday and Sunday.

4. Mumbai: Two Held for ‘Duping Jeweller of Rs 1.65 Crore’

The Mumbai Police arrested two men on Monday for allegedly duping a south Mumbai jeweller to the tune of Rs 1.65 crore. Police said the duo took 4.9 kg of gold from the jeweller, but did not pay for it.

The accused have been identified as Hasmukh Loda (44) and Manoj Loda (32), both residents of Vile Parle. Police said that on February 23, the two went to meet the complainant at his shop in Zaveri Bazaar.

5. 16-Year-Old Found Hanging From Tree in Delhi, Cops Suspect Suicide

A 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Southeast Delhi's Sarita Vihar on Tuesday, police said.

Police said they were informed by a caller around 9:30 am that a person was found hanging from a tree between Metro Yard and Agra Canal drainage near Mother Dairy in Jasola.

On reaching the spot, the victim was identified as a resident of Abdul Fazal Enclave, they said.

6. Two Arrested in Pune for Defrauding Govt With Fake GST Invoices Worth Rs 700 Crore

Two people were arrested on Friday for allegedly defrauding the government of approximately Rs 700 crore by issuing fake Goods and Services Tax (GST) invoices. The arrests were made by officials of the Central GST commissionerate in Pune, according to VN Mangaraju, joint commissioner of Central GST-2 Commisionerate, Pune.

The two were identified as Amit Ashok Thepde and Vias M Atal, partners of two firms called Reliable Multitrading and Himalaya Tradelinks, according to a statement issued by joint commissioner Mangaraju.

7. Three Arrested for Robbing Man of His Car in Delhi

Three people were arrested from Jaipur Highway for allegedly robbing a man of his car after finalising a deal for the vehicle through an online marketplace, police said on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Naveen Chaudhary (38), Babu Lal Gurjar (24) and Sarwan (28), residents of Sikar in Rajasthan, they said.

8. Delhi: This Gang Stole Jewellery to Run Betting Racket

Delhi police on Tuesday busted a cricket betting racket that was being run by stealing ornaments from jewellers in central Delhi's Karol Bagh.

The accused, who worked as a courier for jewellers, would hold back pieces of gold ornaments during delivery assignments and promise customers that they would be delivered later.

9. Thieves Smash Car Windscreen, Steal Bag Containing Jewellery Worth Rs 2.50 Lakh in Chandigarh Sector 22

Thieves stole a bag containing gold jewellery worth around Rs 2.50 lakh after smashing the right-side rear windscreen of a car in the parking lot of Sector 22 on Monday night. The car, which belongs to a Hisar resident, was parked near the police beat box in Sector 22.

The bag contained four gold women’s rings, one gold men’s ring, two gold bangles, two sets of earrings and mangalsutra.
