1. Boy Killed by Classmate in Kodaikanal Residential School

A Class X student of a private residential school in Kodaikanal was allegedly killed by his classmate on Monday night following a quarrel over some petty issue. The victim, aged 16, hailed from Hosur in Krishnagiri district.

The police said the suspect stabbed the victim with scissors and hit him with cricket stumps on the premises of the school hostel. The police have recovered the scissors, the cricket stumps and a bat from him.

The school teachers rushed the injured boy on Monday night to the Government Hospital at Dindigul, where doctors declared him “brought dead”. He had suffered multiple injuries on the body.

2. Main Accused in Ghatkopar Birthday Murder Held

The Pant Nagar police on Tuesday arrested the main accused wanted in connection with the murder of 32-year-old Nitesh Sawant, who was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death in Ghatkopar (East) on Sunday night.

Sawant, a resident of the Gaurishankar Wadi area, was celebrating his birthday when seven people attacked him around 9.20 pm on Sunday.

He was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead before admission, and six people were arrested in connection with the case on Monday.

Arjun Kende, with whom Sawant had an argument last week, which reportedly led to the murder, fled the city immediately after the incident, the police said.

3. Pune: Woman, 3 Kids Found Dead, Cops Say Girls Were Sexually Assaulted

Day after a 28-year-old woman and her three children were found hanging in their rented house, the preliminary report of the autopsy on Monday, 29 July revealed that the two girls — aged nine and seven — were sexually abused. Police have launched a fresh probe in the light of new facts that have come to fore. Officials said the father of the children was being questioned.

Police had said on Sunday that they suspected the woman to have killed the two daughters and a son and later hanged herself over financial and domestic issues between the her and her fruit seller husband.

4. FIR Against 17 Builders in Shahberi

The Gautam Budh Nagar administration has registered an FIR against 17 builders for alleged illegal constructions and sale of flats in Shahberi.

The action follows a meeting held by the Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate B N Singh, who took cognisance of a report identifying 30 builders by the Stamp Duty Department. “In the last few months, FIRs have already been filed against 17 such builders and sections of the Gangsters Act was imposed on them. The Greater Noida Authority will register an FIR against the remaining builders in the next few days…,” said Singh. Officials said the administration will invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against accused builders in the coming days, in line with the government’s directions.

5. Elderly Couple Found ‘Murdered’ in Their South Kolkata Home

An elderly couple was found dead under mysterious circumstances at their house in Netaji Nagar police station area here on Tuesday.

Accordingly to police, the deceased have been identified as Dilip and Swapna Mukherjee. They were childless and staying alone in a two-story house at Ashoka Avenue under Netaji Nagar police station.

Police said the matter came to light in the morning when several knocks at their door went unanswered. The neighbours then looked inside the house through a window and saw them lying on a bed. They then informed the police. Though police didn’t find any external injury on the bodies, they confirmed it was murder after examining the circumstantial evidences.

6. Three of Family in Punjab Killed Over Inter-Caste Marriage

Three relatives of a man who married a Dalit woman around a month-and-half ago were allegedly hacked to death by the woman’s kin in a hate crime in Naushehra village, 40 km from the district headquarters, on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, local police said.

According to them, the man, Harman Singh, a 22-year-old from the Jat Sikh community, married Bavy, a 20-year old from the neighbouring village, despite opposition from her family.

7. Haryana Minister Manish Grover Booked in Booth Capturing Case

Police on Tuesday filed a first information report (FIR) against minister of state for cooperatives Manish Grover and his accomplice, history-sheeter Ramesh Lohar, for alleged booth capturing in Rohtak during the Lok Sabha elections.

Both the accused have been booked under Sections 120-B, 506, 511, 483, 420, 34, 188, 171-C, 171-F, 166-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25 of the Arms Act.

The action comes a day after a local court issued a contempt notice to Rohtak superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Sharma and SHO Dilbag Singh for not complying with the orders pertaining to the registration of the case.

8. 22-Year-Old Man Accused of Raping Minor Girl Gets 10 Years in Prison

A city court on Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old man, who was found guilty of raping a minor girl in 2017, to 10 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000.

Additional sessions judge Raj Rani Gupta pronounced the sentence for the accused man, Ishu, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and held him guilty of raping the victim. Half of the total fine amount would be given to the victim and the rest to the district legal service authority. If the accused man fails to pay up, the convict will have to undergo one additional year of imprisonment, stated the order.

9. Director of Odisha-Based NBFC Held in Rs. 25 Crore Ponzi Scam

A team of Sitaramdera police station arrested Rajesh Jha, the director of an Odisha-based Sree Walis Group of Companies, a non-banking finance company (NBFC) in Jamshedpur on late Monday night, on charges of fraud worth about Rs 25 crore with hundreds of investors. He was arrested about two and half years after a case was lodged against him and other company officials here in Sitaramdera police station (PS) in 2017.

Jha is a resident of posh Vijaya Garden residential complex in Birsanagar locality of the city.
