1. Youth Shot Dead, Friend Raped by Roadside Near Thane, No Leads So Far

A 28-year-old man was shot dead and his 30-year-old girlfriend raped by a man who was allegedly part of a gang of robbers, who Monday, 5 March, accosted the couple in Titwala, 45 km away from Thane. The couple was on a motorcycle ride on an isolated road and were going back to their homes.

The woman was taken to the Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar for a medical examination and discharged on Tuesday, 6 March, while Ganesh Dinkar was declared dead at the hospital, police said. Twenty-four hours after the incident, police are yet to identify the accused, even as locals claimed the road between Ambernath to Chinchpada, where the incident took place, is a known hideout for “anti-social elements.”

2. Delhi: City School Principal, Brother Killed Over Property

A 45-year-old woman was murdered in front of her husband and son on Monday, 5 March, at her house by a group of men, while her brother was found dead with head injuries in an open plot at Badsa village in Haryana on Tuesday, 6 March.

Police suspect the murders to be the result of a dispute regarding a six-bigha plot at Ghuman Hera village near Chhawla in southwest Delhi.

The woman, Anita Yadav, was the principal of a primary school that she owned and ran along with her husband. Her brother, Jai Kishan, was a property dealer and ran the transport service at the school. The prime suspect is Jai Kishan’s friend, Naveen Yadav, who is absconding. DCP (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh said several teams have been formed to nab the killers.

3. 23-Year-Old Man Stabbed to Death by Cousin Near Thane

A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death in Bhiwandi by his cousin and his friend over property dispute on Monday, 5 March.

Both the accused, Moghesh Mhatre and his friend Abhishek Joshi, were arrested.

Pankaj Prakash Mhatre, 30, and his cousin brother Moghesh, 23, live in the same building at Kalher. The police said the two families were not on good terms for the past three to four years.

4. Woman Accused of Forcing Niece Into Prostitution Alleges Rape

The 20-year-old woman, accused of forcing her 15-year-old niece into prostitution, lodged a complaint against two men of repetitive rape at Amroli police station on Monday, 5 March.

The woman alleged that one of the accused raped her first around five months ago after promising to marry her. The two men have also been booked for raping the minor girl.

Police booked Bhavesh Nikhar (21) and Shilusingh Rajput (23), both are residents of the economically weaker section colony at Kosad, for raping Komal (name changed). They were booked at Athwa police station for raping the minor and were later arrested on Saturday. The accused will be handed over to Amroli police once the investigation by Athwa police is over.

5. Chhattisgarh: BJP MLA's Son Among 5 Held for Damaging Cop's Car

The son of a BJP MLA in Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh and four supporters of the legislator were on Tuesday, 6 March, arrested for allegedly causing damage to a police official's car last week, police said.

The accused, identified as Vikram Singh Kshatriya (son of legislator Raju Singh Kshatriya), Santosh Sahu, Saroj Kumar Sahu, Chhannu Singh Thakur and Ranjit Thakur, were arrested for allegedly causing damage to car of Sub-Inspector YN Sharma in Takhatpur police station area on 1 March, Bilaspur Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Archana Jha said.

They were booked under IPC Sections 147 (rioting), 294 (obscene act) and 427 (causing damage to property), she said.

6. Four Boys Detained for ‘Sexually Assaulting’ 11-Year-Old ‘Friend’

An 11-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by his “friends” in Goregaon over the past few months. The police recently detained four boys after the minor lodged a complaint last month. The alleged assault came to light after the boy fell sick during school last month, the police said. “The boy was feeling very uncomfortable and was unable to sit in one place,” said an official at Dindoshi police station.

The police added that when the boy became increasingly uneasy, the teachers called his parents to the school and they took him to the hospital. An examination revealed injuries to his private parts, and after concluding that the boy had been sexually assaulted, the hospital notified the police.

7. Greater Noida Man Kills Uncle, Aunt Over Land Feud

A man allegedly shot dead his uncle and aunt in the middle of a panchayat session that had been organised in a Dadri village on Tuesday, 6 March, to settle a years-old dispute over a piece of land.

The plot in Chitera village has been the bone of contention between the families of four brothers for years. In 2015, too, a quarrel over the plot had led to the killing of one of the family members by a relative.

8. Two Held With Fake Currency Notes in Thane

The Thane police’s Crime Branch arrested a man and a woman and recovered counterfeit currency notes with a face value of Rs 43,400 from them, an official said on Tuesday, 6 March. The police nabbed the woman, aged 47, at Gajanan market in the Ulhasnagar township here on March 4 and seized 110 fake notes of Rs 100 denomination from her, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Mukund Hatote said.

He said the police had got a tip-off that the woman was planning to circulate the fake notes in the market.

9. Three-Year-Old Brutally Raped Inside Parked Bus by Cleaner

A 45-year-old cleaner dragged a three-year-old girl onto a parked bus on Canal (West) Road in north Kolkata on Monday, 5 March, and then raped her, even as her brother — a five-year-old — kept banging on the bus’s doors, pleading that he let go of his sister.

The brother, after realising the futility of his efforts, ran to fetch his mom. She raised an alarm that alerted her neighbours, who came and rescued the girl from the rapist’s clutches and then thrashed him before calling the cops. The girl, bleeding profusely, was taken to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Doctors said she had been brutalised but would possibly pull through. Cops later arrested Sheikh Munna.
