1. Noida Gang Held for Using Rickshaw Puller’s Bank Account for Fraud
Four persons were arrested Friday night from a fake call centre for allegedly duping several people on the pretext of jobs with airline companies in Noida’s Sector 142. The suspects had roped in a rickshaw puller and used his bank account for bogus transactions.
The mastermind Praveen Mishra, 28, is a resident of Surajpur. He had hired three persons – Abhishek Pal, 23, Rishabh, 24, and Shantanu, 25— as tele-calling executive. Mishra holds a BA degree and Shantanu is doing his MBA, while the other two are Class 12 graduates.

2. At 14 Shelter Homes in Delhi, Audit Finds Instances of Abuse
In a report to the Delhi government, a Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) audit of shelter homes for women and children in the national capital has flagged grave instances of sexual and physical abuse in around 14 facilities. The instances of sexual abuse in the guise of “punishment”, as detailed in the 143-page report, include insertion of “chilli powder in private parts, throwing hot water, beatings, denial of food” and other humiliations like giving group baths to inmates having serious mental illnesses.
The report, commissioned by the Delhi Commission for Women on the government’s directions, was discussed in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday. The “grave concerns” pertain mostly to shelters run by individuals and NGOs. Serious cases of abuse were immediately dealt with, including filing police complaints, said a Delhi government official.

3. Youth Congress Leader Claims Beaten in Jail, Chhattisgarh Prisons Chief Orders Probe
Chhattisgarh police on Tuesday ordered a probe after a Youth Congress leader alleged that he was beaten up in the jail by officials for his “political affiliation” inside the prison, a top official said.
Aas Mohammad, who is Raipur rural constituency vice-president of Youth Congress, was booked for allegedly manhandling a policeman of Mana police station on September 19.
Station house officer, Mana police station, Bernad Kujur, said Mohammand was booked selling obscene material, voluntary causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
“Mohammad was booked because he had manhandled one policeman who was in plain clothes,” Kujur said. He added that Mohhamad was previously booked by Raipur police in a bike theft case last month.

4. Power Theft: Ahmedabad Man Gets 3 Years’ Rigorous Imprisonment
Eight years after officials of Torrent Power Limited (TPL) caught an Ahmedabad-based resident for electricity theft of Rs 12,789, a city civil and sessions court awarded three years rigorous imprisonment to the accused on Tuesday.
According to a spokesperson of TPL, the accused, Amanat Khan Pathan, a resident of Allanagar in Behrampura of Ahmedabad, was charged with stealing electricity by illegally connecting his house line directly with the TPL distribution, even after his connection was cut.
“On March 15, 2011, a team of TPL visited the site and found that though electricity connection S/-2267820 was disconnected, the accused was drawing electricity directly from the distribution system of TPL to run appliances at his house. There was unauthorised use of electricity by mode of direct theft without the use of meter,” said Jayesh Desai, executive director, TPL.

5. Truck Driver Pours Hot Oil on Girlfriend
Thane A 35-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries after a truck driver, who was in a relationship with her, threw hot oil on her following an argument early on Wednesday, police said.
The accused, Bhimrao Bhide, 45, who hails from Nashik, was arrested, police said.
The victim, who works as a waiter at a hotel in Chinchpada in Ambernath, was admitted to a hospital following the incident, they said.
“The woman got married in 2005 and has two daughters. Her husband left her as she failed to give birth to boy. Meanwhile, the woman got into a relationship with Bhide, who started visiting her place regularly,” a police official said.

6. Promised 2.5 Million Pounds, Powai Woman Pays Rs 45.69 Lakh to Online Fraudsters
A 31-year-old businesswoman from Powai gave away Rs 45.69 lakh to online fraudsters after she allegedly received an email from a UK resident, claiming that she wants to donate 2.5 million pounds to her so that she can undertake charity work in India.
In her complaint to the police, filed earlier this month, the woman has alleged that on August 21, she received an email from 67-year-old UK resident Bertha Mellon stating — “I want to donate 2.5 million pounds to you for charity work in your country India, contact me for more.” The email added that the money was with the Royal Bank of Scotland.
It also contained the email address of a lawyer, with whom the complainant was asked to get in touch with.

7. 52-Year-Old Member of Women Snatchers’ Gang Targeting PGI Patients Held
A 52-year-old woman snatcher was caught by alert bystanders as she attempted to steal the gold chain and purse of a 60-year-old woman boarding a bus at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) while her accomplice managed to flee, police said on Thursday.
Chinder alias Ruldi of Bagriya village in Sangrur was part of an organised gang that frequently targeted people visiting the hospital. She was waiting at the PGIMER bus stop with her accomplice Premo and grabbed Preeto’s chain and purse containing ₹150 and an Aadhaar card as she boarded the bus.
As Preeto, a resident of Kansal village, raised an alarm, alert bystanders managed to catch hold of Ruldi while Premo fled and handed her over to the police.

8. DU Students Claim Beaten up at Bar, Police File FIR
Four DU law students sustained injuries after they were allegedly beaten up by bouncers at a bar in North West Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar Wednesday. DCP (North West) Vijayanta Arya said, “We have lodged an FIR against the bouncers; efforts are on to nab them,” adding that a few weeks ago, an FIR had been lodged against the same bar for serving hookah.
Police said the complaint was filed by a second-year student at DU’s Faculty of Law. “The student invited his friends to the bar to celebrate his birthday. As they were dancing, one of his friends requested the DJ to change the song. When the DJ refused, a heated argument ensued. A bouncer intervened and started beating the students,” said a senior police officer. The student alleged he and his friends were taken down and attacked by other bouncers. “The bouncers claimed they were misbehaving in the bar. The group received grievous injuries,” said the officer.

9. Mumbai Student Arrested For Doctoring Girl's Photo, Threatening Her: Cops
A 20-year-old college student has been arrested by the crime branch of Mumbai Police for making obscene videos of a teenager girl by doctoring her photo, and later threatening to circulate it, an official said on Thursday.
The girl had noticed that her photo on the photo-sharing site Instagram had been doctored and used in an obscene video by an unidentified account user.
The user had sent this video to the girl's account and threatened to upload it on social media if she did not do his bidding.
He then forced her to resend the video to another social media account, and sent her some vulgar messages on her Instagram account, the official said.
