1. 9-Year-Old Raped in Her House
A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped in her house in Virar on Tuesday, 2 August, by a man claiming to be a delivery boy. The girl was alone in the house at the time, police said.
According to police, the girl’s mother lodged the complaint on Wednesday after her daughter refused to step outside the house.
“The girl was severely traumatised under the belief that the man would return, so she refused to leave the house and didn’t let her mother go as well,” said a senior police officer.

2. 19-Year-Old’s Gang-Rape Case Transferred to Mumbai From Aurangabad
Weeks after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by four men in the city, the case is set to be handed over to the Mumbai Police from the Aurangabad Police, who registered the initial FIR.
Police said according to the statement given by the woman, the incident had allegedly taken place on the intervening night of 7 and 8 July. The woman, who had been staying with her brothers in Mumbai, was on her way back to their house from a friend’s birthday party.
On 14 July, her brothers had called their parents in Jalna, saying the woman was unwell and appeared to be suffering a paralytic stroke.

3. Two Arrested From Train for ‘Performing Stunts’
Two men were arrested on Thursday for allegedly performing stunts aboard a train running between Chembur and Wadala.
The accused, Mohommad Mobin Mustafa (19) and Sagir Ahmad Abid Ali (20), boarded the train at the Kurla station and were in the same compartment as two constables, Sachin Patil and Sachin Mandle. Both constables are posted at Wadala railway police station and were on their way to work.
Rajendra Pal, senior inspector at Wadala railway police station, said the two men began performing stunts and were hanging out of the moving train. The constables shot a video of Mustafa performing pull-ups while perched on the footboard, while Ali stood next to him.

4. Delhi School Girl Suicide: Family Says Another Student’s Kin Lied About Brawl
The family of a Class XII student, who allegedly committed suicide at her South Delhi home on Wednesday, alleged she was “driven to take the extreme step” by another schoolgirl’s family, who had allegedly accused her of bullying.
The victim’s family claimed ‘she had no prior altercation with the other girl and was not under any apparent stress’.
DCP (South) Vijay Kumar had told The Indian Express that parents of another school student had complained to the school principal against the victim for allegedly beating their child.

5. Doctor Alleges Extortion by 2 Advocates
A doctor at a private hospital in east Delhi’s Preet Vihar has alleged that the two advocates of a city court extracted money from him on the pretext of a legal notice, the police said on Thursday.
The victim, also an owner of the private hospital, was sent a legal notice pertaining to the hospital land by two advocates in a bid to extort money from him, they said.
The advocates claimed that they could settle the legal dispute within a meeting, the police said.
Accordingly, a meeting was arranged at Connaught Place where the doctor paid them ₹1 lakh.

6. Man Held for Posing as IAS Officer, Duping Policemen
A man has been arrested for posing as a senior bureaucrat in the Prime Minister’s Office and duping Uttar Pradesh policemen by promising them desired postings in lieu of money, officers said on Thursday.
Gaurav Mishra (30) would either pose as a senior IAS officer posted in the PMO or an IPS officer of the West Bengal cadre, they said, adding that his brother-in-law Ashutosh Rathi (34) was arrested as well.
A police officer said Rathi, who identified himself as a BJP leader, would assure the victims of exerting pressure on government officials to get their transfers or postings done quickly.

7. Gurugram Woman Found Hanging in Rishikesh
A 30-year-old woman, who went missing from Gurugram on 2 July, and a 22-year-old man were found hanging in a room of a dharamshala (shelter for pilgrims) in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, on Thursday morning, the police said.
A suicide note recovered from the spot mentioned that they were “tired of being on the run”, but the police are yet to ascertain the reason for the suicides.
The Gurugram police said they received a call from Rishikesh police on Thursday morning that a woman was found hanging and they had recovered a suicide note from the room, which mentioned that no one is responsible for their death.

8. 2 Contract Killers Held After Gunfight in Noida
Two alleged contract killers involved in a shootout at a property dealer’s office here have been nabbed on Thursday morning following a gunfight, the police said.
The accused were going to mount another attack on the property dealer but the police foiled their plan after receiving a tip-off. They were nabbed around 5 a.m. in Phase-II area after they sustained injuries in an exchange of fire with the police, a senior officer said.
“Accused Aakash Singh hails from Baghpat and Ravi Singh belongs to Delhi. They are sharpshooters engaged by Billu Dujana gang. On July 24, they had barged into the office and opened fire in which the dealer’s employee was injured,” SP (Noida) Vineet Jaiswal said.
