1. 3-Year-Old Kidnapped, Beheaded by Repeat Offender Weeks After Release from Jail

In an incident that sent shock waves through Jamshedpur, the headless body of a three-year-old girl who went missing from Tatanagar railway station last week was found on Tuesday, 30 July, at the instance of the accused who was arrested after being identified in the CCTV footage.

The torso of the girl was sent for post-mortem but the police suspect that the child was also raped as she had injuries on her private parts. The head is yet to be recovered.

What is even more shocking is that the accused, Rinku, now in police custody, is a repeat offender and had been arrested and convicted earlier for kidnapping and killing children in Telco and Sakchi areas. He is a son of a havildar posted in Giridih district police.

2. 26-Year-Old Cleric Held for ‘Molesting’ Minor Girl

A 26-year-old cleric was arrested from his home in Rampur district on Monday for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl at a mosque in Bareilly on Friday evening.

Imam Munir Ahmad was produced in a local court, which sent him to judicial custody on Monday.

According to a complaint lodged against Ahmad, on Friday evening, the girl had gone to the mosque near her house to learn Arabic like everyday. “Her parents alleged that no one, except the cleric, was present there on the day and taking advantage of the situation, he molested the girl. The parents said he then sent the girl back home, asking her not not tell anyone about this,” said the Station House Officer (SHO) of the local police station.

3. Wife Claims Harassed by Judge, In-Laws, Writes to Chief Justice

The wife of a sessions court judge has written to Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog of the Bombay High Court alleging constant harassment and threats to her life from her husband and in-laws. The chief justice has forwarded the latter to the HC registry for a preliminary inquiry.

In the four-page letter, the woman has said that she married the judge at Baramati in May 2007. Soon after, her husband and in-laws started harassing her and her family for dowry.

She claimed that at the time of the wedding, her family had given Rs 5 lakh and furniture to her in-laws while also bearing the expenses of the wedding. Later, her husband and in-laws allegedly started started demanding a car and 30 acres of agricultural land, the letter said.

4. In-Laws Harassed, Used Casteist Slurs: Mumbai Dalit Man

A 31-year-old Dalit man has complained to the police that his in-laws have been harassing him with casteist slurs for the last five years.

The complainant, who works as a chef in a restaurant in the city’s western suburbs, said he has been in a relationship with a Brahmin woman for the last 10 years and got married early this year, despite opposition from her parents. He claimed she was being influenced by her parents, and had thus left him.

5. Junior Doctor Found Dead in Rented Lajpat Nagar Flat, Police Suspect Suicide

A 30-year-old junior doctor pursuing post graduation from Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital was found dead at his rented flat in south Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar on Tuesday morning, the police said.

Police said the room in which the doctor’s semi-decomposed body was found was bolted from inside. They suspect that the doctor allegedly killed himself and did not suspect any foul play. A cannula was found inserted in his arm and an empty glucose bottle was found near his body, suggesting that the doctor had allegedly injected some poisonous liquid into his body that claimed his life, police said.

A roommate and their domestic help first saw the doctor’s body around 9 am, police said.

6. Man Who Stole from Five-Star Hotel Arrested

Five months after “8 to 10 men” scaled the wall of Grand Hyatt hotel in Gurgaon and allegedly stole “50 to 60 sheets of aluminium” after threatening the security guards with pistols, police have arrested one person for the crime.

Police identified the accused as Sandeep alias Sandy, a resident of Behrampur village. The incident had occurred on the night between 25 and 26 February.

“In the FIR, it has been alleged that around 1 am, around 8-10 men scaled the wall of the hotel and, brandishing pistols at security guards, and ran off with 50 to 60 pieces of aluminium that were kept on the premises,” said Subhash Boken, PRO of Gurgaon Police.

7. Army Captain Found Dead Near Railway Tracks in Sadar Bazar, Kin Allege Murder

A day after the body of an Indian Army doctor was found on the railway tracks near Sadar Bazar in central Delhi, the police on Tuesday said that the initial autopsy report did not hint towards any foul play.

The man was a Captain in the Indian Army and his family has alleged that he was murdered.

Police said they have found CCTV footage, in which the Army officer can be seen walking along the tracks alone. The footage of as many as 14 CCTVs are being scanned to ascertain if somebody was accompanying or following the Army captain.

The officer had de-boarded a train from Lucknow at the New Delhi railway station at around 5.30am on Monday.

8. Delhi Police Arrest Three for Supplying Illegal Arms

Three men were arrested for allegedly supplying illegal arms in the national capital and its peripheral areas, the police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Shahzad Ali (24), a resident of Ranholla, Gurmeet Singh (25), a resident of Tilak Nagar, and Yashpal (38), a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

“The police received information on 27 July that Ali was going to purchase arms near Dwarka Sector 16, following which a trap was laid and Ali and Singh were apprehended,” said DCP (Crime) Ram Gopal Naik.

9. 10 kg Heroin Worth Rs 45 Cr Seized at IGI Airport

Customs at the Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport arrested a 22-year-old woman from Mozambique on Tuesday and recovered more than 10 kg heroin worth ₹45 crore from her luggage.

Officials said the woman is a student in Maputo, the Mozambican capital, and it was her first trip abroad. She was carrying the drugs for a syndicate and was to handover the narcotics to a contact in Delhi, they said.

Officials said that the woman was intercepted following a tip off after she landed at the terminal three by a flight via Addis Ababa, late on Tuesday night. She was taken for a detailed frisking and luggage checking.
