Bollywood star Salman Khan was nonplussed for a moment today when a judge in a Jodhpur court asked him what his caste was. However, he quickly gathered his wits and replied that he was both “Hindu and Muslim”.

“My father is Muslim and my mother is Hindu,” Khan said, speaking in Hindi.

Khan also told chief judicial magistrate Anupama Bijlani that he had been framed in a case registered against him under the Arms Act over the shooting of some endangered animals in 1998.

Salman’s counsel HM Saraswat said, “Court gave us time to present our side on May 4”. Salman was accompanied by bodyguard Shera and sister Alvira.

Arms Act Case

The Arms Act case is an offshoot of the 1998 black buck poaching case, where the actor has been accused of killing the endangered ‘chinkaras’ during the shooting of his film Hum Saath Saath Hain.

A case was registered against the actor by the forest officials under the Arms Act on October 15, 1998, as the licenses of his weapons were found to have expired. On April 17, 2015, a sessions court in Jodhpur had sought to record the statement of the actor related to the Arms Act case.
