Loan sharks in the old city area of Hyderabad have started a new trend of threatening female family members of debtors using women-gangs. According to a Deccan Chronicle report, illegal financiers are now engaging women instead of rowdy people to threaten the debtors in the old city.

The south zone police caught twenty-nine men and a woman from Hussaini Alam on Monday. A special team has also identified seven women who were working for the financiers, who are now absconding.

Alleging harassment, six women have approached the police. They claim that women- gangs enter the debtors’ houses and abuse their wives and sisters.

They would use all kinds of abusive words to harass and threaten the female members of the family. Because their husbands took money from financiers, these women had to face the abuse.

The groups are reported to be active in areas like Chatrinaka and Falak-numa, from where most of the complaints came from.

The police also found that financiers are now lending money only after taking documents of property, so that if the interest payments are delayed, they can grab their properties.
