In a letter issued to the media by the Haryana government – which was later withdrawn – the Sonepat district Information and Public Relations Officer asked journalists to “keep a safe distance” from Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during press conferences, citing security reasons.
According to the letter issued on 14 November, journalists tend to get microphones and cameras too close to the Chief Minister, causing him inconvenience.
The letter also read that if journalists or camerapersons fail to follow the orders, “they themselves will be responsible for the consequences.” According to Hindustan Times, the notice was later withdrawn by the government.
The letter also requested reporters to not run behind the Chief Minister after a press conference or a media addressal.
The notice came after Khattar drew a lot of attention with issues like the Ryan School murder case and the Delhi-NCR pollution matter. The notice was later withdrawn without specifying a reason, reported HT.
