Two people, including a woman, were arrested by the Haryana Police on Saturday, 29 June, in connection with murder of Congress leader Vikas Chaudhary. However, the main accused has not been arrested as of yet, reports said.

Haryana Congress spokesperson Vikas Chaudhary was shot dead in a gym's parking lot in Faridabad on Thursday. He was cremated on Friday, hours after party workers staged a protest at a local hospital over the alleged delay in handing over the body.

Police handed over the body to the relatives after 3 pm when Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's visit to the town concluded.

State Congress president Ashok Tanwar, along with other party leaders, was present during the cremation at Sector 8 in Faridabad.

‘Could Be Personal Enmity’: Haryana CM

Earlier on Friday, Congress workers wearing black arm bands had demonstrated at BK Hospital, demanding that the body of the slain party leader be handed over to them immediately.

The party workers claimed that the body was not handed over to them as the Haryana Chief Minister was in the town.

Meanwhile, CM Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday that the deceased had 13 FIRs against him and that "anything could be possible with such a person."

“He had 13 FIRs against him and he had been declared a (person of) bad character. Anything could be possible with such a person, it could be personal enmity. Police teams have been formed, culprits won’t be spared.”

‘Reflection of Deteriorating Law and Order Situation’: Rahul Gandhi

Soon after the incident took place on Thursday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to condemn the incident and slam the law and order situation in Haryana.

“The murder of Congress Spokesperson and Leader Vikas Chaudhary in Faridabad is a condemnable, shameful and sad incident. This is a reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana,” Gandhi wrote in a tweet in Hindi.

According to reports, more than ten bullets were fired at Chaudhary by unidentified men outside a gym.

The police said the four men went in a Maruti Suzuki SX4 car to the Sector 9 locality of Faridabad, where the incident took place.

Congress also condemned the “act of grotesque violence” and urged the Haryana Government to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, Haryana Congress President Ashok Tanwar had said, “It's ‘jungle raj’, there is no fear of law. Same kind of incident happened yesterday (Wednesday), where a woman who opposed molestation was stabbed. There should be an investigation.”

The 38-year-old Congress spokesperson belonged to the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) until recently.
