Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, along with his ministerial colleagues and party legislators from the state, pedalled to the Haryana assembly on Wednesday, the last day of the monsoon session.
Although it was a symbolic gesture, the lawmakers shunning their fuel-guzzling cars to set an example for the masses.
Sporting a kurta-payjama and half-jacket, Khattar used a cycle from his official residence to the Haryana assembly complex, covering just over one kilometre.
This is good for the environment. People should use cycles at least for a day.Khattar
Haryana’s Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Shyam Singh Rana pedalled a cycle-rickshaw to the assembly. He carried CPS Seema Trikha and Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Jagdish Chopra on his rickshaw.
Some other legislators took e-rickshaws (electronic rickshaws) to reach the assembly.
This is a motivational step. People will feel that if the head of a state and political leaders can do it, why can’t others.OP Dhankar, Haryana agriculture minister
