Guwahati Restaurateur Hit by Car After Argument, Dies on Spot

In a horrific incident that occurred on Saturday night, 13 January, a man identified as Bhupinder Singh, was intentionally run over by a vehicle in a busy road in Jaynagar area of Assam’s capital Guwahati.

Bhupinder who was the manager of Nagameez restaurant succumbed to his injuries before the ambulance arrived at the site of the incident half an hour later.

According to local news channel Pratidin, Bhupinder was waiting for someone in the middle of a traffic jam in Jaynagar area, when he spotted a white Innova that was partially responsible for holding up the traffic. He then reportedly crossed the road to ask the driver to shift the car to ease the traffic, following which a verbal argument broke between Bhupinder and the male driver and two female occupants of the car.

The females who were reportedly drunk were heard asking the driver to hit Bhupinder with the car. Then the man behind the wheels took the car in reverse and hit Bhupinder and dragged him on for around 50 meters before hitting an electric pole.

As Bhupinder lay badly injured, the car reportedly sped off. In a series of tweets, Bhupinder’s cousin claimed that the occupants of the car were juveniles.

A complaint has been lodged at the Basistha Nagar police station. Currently the policemen are on the look out of the vehicle which belonged to the AS01 GF series.

Bhupinder is survived by his mother and sisters.
