The police arrested five men on Tuesday, 29 May, for allegedly kidnapping a woman from outside a mall in Gurugram and gang-raping her in a guest house in south Delhi the previous night.
The woman told the police that she had come out of Sahara Mall in Gurugram at around 11 pm and was looking for an auto when the five men approached her and offered to drop her at her destination, News18 reported. When she resisted, she was allegedly dragged into the car and taken to the guest house in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, where they took turns to rape her.
The men reportedly then left her in the room and bolted the door from the outside.
According to The Times of India, the woman tried shouting for help. Hearing her screams, a cook tried to help her escape. However, one of the men allegedly prevented her from fleeing. She finally managed to escape by hitting one of the men with a rod.
She then went to the Vasant Kunj police station with a friend around 4.30 am to report the crime, reported TOI.
The accused have been identified as Tejvir Singh, Gopal Prasad, Roop Dev, Anshul and Rambabu. According to News 18, the police have said that all five men are from Haryana and work in the national capital. Two of them are drivers with a leading app-based cab service.
