A couple of hours after militants attacked a security force party on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Kashmir’s Pulwama district, one of the six wounded Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers succumbed to injuries.
The CRPF jawans were on their way to Srinagar for election duty for Lok Sabha bypolls, scheduled to be held on 9 April. The militants fired at the civilian passenger vehicle carrying CRPF jawans of 97 Battalion at Sempora in Pantha Chowk area, PTI reported.
Militant outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for this attack.
Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to conduct searches. The injured are being shifted to hospital. Further details are awaited.Police officer
The incident came less than a day after a police constable was killed and 11 other security personnel, including eight policemen and three CRPF troopers, were injured in Srinagar's Nowhatta area in a grenade attack.
CRPF PRO B Chaudhary reacted to the incident, saying:
It’s a sensitive time. Separatists have called for a boycott of elections. We are on high alert. CRPF is doing its duty.
