Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Atul Vaidya was granted regular bail by the Gujarat High Court on Tuesday. Vaidya was serving seven years of imprisonment in the Gulberg society massacre case. Vaidya has appealed against his conviction in the case.

Vaidya’s conviction came on 3 June 2016 along with 23 others for killing 69 people at Gulberg Society, a Muslim neighbourhood during the 2002 post-Godhra riots. Former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri was among the victims.
