Geeta, the deaf and mute girl who had mistakenly crossed the border over to Pakistan has started learning sign language at the Indore Deaf Bilingual Academy (IDBA). In her first public appearance since she came to India on October 26, Geeta shared anecdotes from her childhood.
She recalled her four siblings – two brothers and two sisters, and that her house was surrounded by rice and wheat fields. However she could not pinpoint the location. In jest she indicated that only Bollywood actor Salman Khan can help find her parents.
The confusion over Geeta’s parents remains since she refused to recognise them when they came face to face. The
results of the DNA samples will be out in few weeks’ time.
A gleaming Geeta also displayed her mace locket, an obvious reference to Salman’s character in Bajraangi Bhaijaan.
However the IDBA coordinator said the locket was given to Geeta by a government officer in Delhi. The coordinator also said that Geeta is undergoing training in languages like English, Hindi and Urdu.
When asked about her life at the Edhi Foundation in Pakistan, Geeta shared that she did not get the same chance to learn as at the Indore NGO. Though her future is yet not known, she shared her desire to continue her education and help other children like her seal a good future.
