The leading e-commerce portal Flipkart seems to have been taken for a ride yet again, but this time by one of its own vendors based in Bengaluru, who is accused of having duped the company for over Rs 1.5 lakh.
This is the second such incident in two months. Last month, a Hyderabad man was arrested for defrauding Flipkart of Rs 20 lakh by returning fake items after complaining that their goods were of poor quality.
The incident came to light after a Flipkart employee Shivaram Krishna filed a complaint with the police accusing a vendor of charging Flipkart for good quality products but returning sub-standard products.
The employee, reportedly, registered the complaint at Kamakshipalya police station. According to his complaint, Ramesh Kumar, an official vendor of Flipkart and owner of Nandi Electronics in Journalist Colony, had allegedly ordered products (that his shop sold) from fake accounts and phone numbers. Once the order list came to him he would quote the price which Flipkart paid him. He would give packages to the company’s delivery boys only to be delivered back to him.
The twist was that Ramesh would never answer the calls of the delivery boys or sometimes would even cancel the order, said The Times of India.
When the company sent the product back to Ramesh, he would accuse Flipkart of having sent back sub-standard products. Ramesh’s ploy was identified when Krishna recognised something was amiss after losing about Rs 1.5 lakh.
Police investigating the case said, “Ramesh confessed that he cheated Flipkart to make money easily.”
