Two men were allegedly beaten up after they were suspected of transporting beef by a group of people claiming to be “gau rakshaks” in Gurugram on Tuesday, 25 June.
The police has additionally filed an FIR against the two men, even as the duo undergo treatment for their injuries at the Civil Hospital.
According to The Indian Express, the police has registered an FIR at the Sadar police station based on the complaint of one Kavita Katariya, a self-proclaimed gau rakshak (cow vigilante).
Speaking to the daily, Katariya said she was at the local gaushala with fellow gau rakshaks early on Tuesday morning when she received information of cow meat being transported from Nuh towards Delhi.
The two men who were beaten up were reportedly part of a larger group of four men. The gau rakshaks stopped the jeeps which were allegedly transporting beef near Islampur village and attempted to chase the men, who took off the minute the vehicles were stopped.
“My gau rakshaks, along with the pedestrians, followed two of the men and caught them. The public became restless and started beating up the two men. I immediately called up police, who came there,” Katariya told The Indian Express.
Meanwhile, PRO of Gurugram, Subhash Boken, said that while the meat has been sent for testing, the two men will be arrested after they are discharged and their statements will be recorded.
