Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley will resume charge as Union finance minister on Friday, 15 February, after he returned from the United States, where he was undergoing medical treatment.
Jaitley, who could not present the sixth and final Budget of the Narendra Modi-led government ahead of elections, had passed the baton to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, who was given additional charge of the finance ministry. Goyal also presented the interim Budget on 1 February.
Jaitley had flown to New York for treatment in January this year.
In May 2018, Jaitley had undergone renal transplant surgery at the AIIMS Hospital in Delhi.
Jaitley is expected to attend the Cabinet Committee meeting on Security (CCS) to discuss the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama that killed at least 37 CRPF jawans, NDTV reported.
Jaitley tweeted about the attack on Thursday and said that "terrorists will be given unforgettable lesson for their heinous act.”
