Two men and a woman allegedly threw acid on two women boxers in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut over an old feud.

The incident happened in Meerut’s Lal Kurti area when the two boxers were on their way to practice at a stadium. The boxers filed a complaint against the three accused.

The women were going to practice at the Kailash Prakash Stadium on Wednesday, 28 February, when the trio came on a bike to stop them.

The girl on the bike threw acid on the victims, who, as a result, suffered injuries on their hands and back. They were immediately rushed to a nearby nursing home for treatment.

Upon speaking to the victim, we understood that an earlier quarrel between the victims and the accused is what provoked the acid attack. The girl accused in this case has been arrested.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the two victims have been identified as Shalu (23) and Garima (19).

The woman accused, identified as 27-year-old Soni, has been arrested and efforts are on to nab the other two accused. Soni’s brother-in-law, Vijay, has been named as one of the other two accused.

According to HT, Contonment circle officer Satpal Ampul said Soni had gone to meet her father in the jail where she got in an argument with Shalu over standing in the queue, who was there to meet one of her relatives.

“They threw acid on Shalu and her friend Garima, a 19-year-old boxer, when they were going to the stadium. Shalu received 20 percent burns on her back while Garima sustained injuries on her elbow. They were admitted to a private hospital for treatment,” Ampul told HT.
