For the next seven days, Chennai Memes, a popular Facebook page with nearly 3,00,000 likes, will not be able to post any memes on their page.

That is because, according to the group which runs the page, Facebook has imposed posting restrictions on their page for a week. This means that while they will be able to post text on their page, no media, like images and video, can be published.

The admins of the page have figured out a way to outwit Facebook by posting content on a newly created page. They will be sharing all posts on the old page through this page.

On Wednesday, the group posted a message on the social networking platform stating, “Facebook has imposed posting restrictions on our page for 7 days. While we are trying to sort out this uncalled restriction, we will keep you entertained by sharing our posts through a new page we have created. Chennai Memes 2. All the post will be shared here through the new page...please lend us your support in this phase and help us overcome this adversity.”

The page, which was started around two-and-a-half years ago, is currently managed by 12 admins. One of them told The News Minute that they don’t know for sure why Facebook imposed such a restriction on them.

With Tamil Nadu Assembly elections round the corner, the page had been putting out political posts. They had been getting copyright notice from Facebook from the last two weeks. But they aren’t sure what the exact issue is as they don’t know which post of their’s is creating the problem, the admin said.

Started in January 2014, the Chennai Memes, which also has a website, regularly uploads memes on everything related to the city- from politics to cinema to culture and everything in between, with a dose of their characteristic sense of humour.
